Alex was irritated! Here it was, another New Years Eve and she was stuck working. Her and Bobby had thought they were going to get a break this year. They had closed one case earlier in the day and their other two open cases were at a stand still until the boys in the lab came back to work on Monday morning. At ten minutes to 5pm, they cleared off their desks, got their coats on and then stood by their desks discussing their plans for the long weekend. At 5pm on the dot they headed for the elevator, but just as the doors opened for them to get on, Captain Ross had stepped off and said. "Good you're both still here."

"No Captain," Bobby had said. "We're not, we're on our way out."

"Sorry Detectives, but you were requested personally."

"By who?" Alex had asked.

"Whom." Bobby corrected and received an elbow in the stomach from her.

"Commissioner Dockerty. His neighbors wife called him when she couldn't get a hold of her husband and the Commissioner found him in his office dead."

"Wonderful" Alex had said in a tone of voice that indicated that it was anything but. The last time they dealt with the Commissioner, was when Bobby's mother was in a bad state because of her cancer, and his blow up at the end of the case nearly cost Bobby his job.

So now here it was, 11:55 pm on New Years Eve and her and Bobby were in the squad room going through crime scene evidence and witness statements. She looked around and sure enough everybody else was gone. In fact looking around again, she realized that Bobby wasn't there either. Where in the heck had he gone to, she thought to herself. Just then her cell phone rang.

"Eames"

"Can you come into the conference room?" It was Bobby. She looked over and the blinds were closed so she couldn't see him.

"What are you doing in there?" She asked as she made her way over there.

"You'll see, just come here"

"Alright, I'm coming."

When she opened the door and stepped in Alex didn't see Bobby but she did see a television turned on to Dick Clark's Rock'n Eve. The door shut behind her and when she turned around there he was. He put a plastic tiara on her head that had the words Happy New Year on it and he handed her a drink.

"I know we're working so it's sparkling grape juice." He said.

"How?..."

"I brought it with me this morning, just in case. Now quiet, it's just about time." He led her over by the television and waited. The ball started dropping and they were counting down on the television. 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1. They toasted the New Year and drank before Bobby leaned down and kissed her lightly on the lips. When Auld Lang Syne started playing in Time Square, Bobby and Alex were wrapped in each others arms, cherishing the thought of another year together, working and loving.
