Character Profiles

Bethany (Beth) Keyna is the protagonist of the story. Beth is the American Reikai Tentei (Spirit Detective) working under lord Koenma, who is the prince of the spirit world. Beth was discovered by Lord Koenma when she was merely five when he detected her energy signature on his radar. Further investigations showed him that she was the daughter of Mariko Fujihara and Thaddeus Kane, an old demon from the English Isles. Bethany has always known that she was different from the other kids, she could see things that they couldn't and when she told them she was made fun of. Eventually, she stopped after meeting Koenma. She understood what she had to do with her powers and that was to protect her world from being destroyed by demons. Since the previous protectors were annihilated.

Thaddeus Kane is the antagonist of the story he is an old demon from the English Isles that wants nothing more than world domination. He defeated the original Reikai Tentei 25 years ago and when into hiding due to a serious injury. Time was slow for the old demon as he waited for the day when he was fully healed and within those years he met a young Japanese girl named Mariko Fujihara who had immigrated to England. She was kind and compassionate towards him and visited him every day. Thaddeus fell in love with this woman and they eventually made love after that he never saw her again. Thaddeus became enraged by this and told himself that he was going to get revenge.

Mariko Fujihara is mother to Bethany Keyna, one time lover to Thaddeus, and married to Aaron Keyna. Mariko after finding out that she was pregnant with Thaddeus's child she left fearing hers and the child's safety. Eventually she met an Englishman named Aaron Keyna and married him. She told him that she was pregnant with his child and nine months later she had a daughter who she named Bethany Keyna. Mariko was not so lucky after the child was born she became ill and lost her life.

Aaron Keyna was first married to Mariko and is father to Bethany. He moved to America after the death of his wife in hopes to start a new life with his daughter. He eventually remarried an American woman named Natalie Maws. He works as a freelance photographer and his works are world renown.
