Before There was a Song, There was a Melody

The tardis gave a great shudder like it was physically preparing itself for their destination. "Easy ole' girl." the Doctor murmured, gently patting the control panel. He knew that things would get ugly once they landed, and he was dreading it. No, that wasn't right. He was elated. He couldn't have been more eager to land the old blue police box. And for reasons even he couldn't comprehend.

It had been only a few months since he left the Ponds in their new home, but where he was going, a lot more time had passed since that day. Amy's words still echoed in his head, a constant reminder of her only wish, "Find her, keep her safe." Such simple words burned a hole right through the Doctor's chest.

The familiar whirring of tired machinery alerted the Doctor that they were nearing their destination. With a sound like someone releasing a large breath, the tardis landed. The Doctor started towards the door but then stopped. He stood there with his hands clasped at the top of his head. Oh how many times had he faced death? Surely he would be able to handle this. "Oh this is ridiculous." the Doctor muttered to himself. He straightened his bow tie and brushed the lapels of his jacket and opened the door.

"What do you think you're doing?" she asked nonchalantly. She. This girl. Sitting in a bathtub. Bathing. oh.

"Good grief! Sorry sorry sorry! Oh hell."the Doctor quickly spun around and clapped a had over his eyes.

"You've interrupted my bath." the girl said calmly, as if she were merely commenting on the weather.

"Oh yes, sorry about that! I'm looking for someone." the Doctor spoke, still turned around with his hand covering his eyes.

"Oh are you? I just assumed you were making a few rounds in your...well, whatever that is behind you." she said referring to the tardis. Her voice sounded so familiar to the Doctor. So familiar...

"You can turn around you know."

The Doctor slowly spun around to face her but kept his hand clapped over his eyes. The girl sighed and the Doctor heard the light splash of water.

"Would you be a dear and hand me my robe?" the girl asked. The Doctor peeked between his fingers to see her hidden safely beneath the soapy water, pointing at a chair next to him.

"THIS is your robe?" he asked skeptically, picking up a thin, gauzy piece of fabric. The girl answered by standing up from the tub. The Doctor blushed immensely and turned his face away modestly as she stepped out of the tub and into the robe, which did almost nothing to conceal her.

"Don't you want to put on something more...not that?" the Doctor gulped. She smiled sweetly.

"I'm quite comfortable the way I am thank you." the Doctor tugged on his collar, catching the eye of this mysterious girl. Murky grey eyes. So familiar...

she shook her sandy blond curls as she dried them and something tugged at the Doctor's two hearts.

"Ah there you are." he murmured.

"Sorry?"

"I've found you, you lovely thing you!" the Doctor shouted, shaking her shoulders enthusiastically. The girl smacked him across the face abruptly.

"What was that for?" the Doctor exclaimed.

"Alright, that's quite enough of that- who are you?" she demanded. He smiled mischeviously at the girl.

"I'm the Doctor."
