I love writing PL stories with Flora in them...since she's been in a tower for most of her life, she's kind of a novice to the real world. Everything she discovers she's intrigued by, and I find her to be a fascinating character in the series.
Flora Reinhold wasn't in the happiest mood at the moment. In fact, she was incredibly angry. Her two best friends, Professor Layton and Luke Triton had once again left her out of one of their adventures.
This stinks! Why do they always leave me out of everything? They always forget me in the STRANGEST places! Darn that Don Paolo and his disguises. She thought to herself. She pulled her hair out of her ruby red signature ribbon, letting her light brown hair fall to her sides. She turned around and decided to figure out just where the heck she was.
Flora's eyes widened in awe at what she saw before her: a doughnut shop. She skipped over to the front of the brightly colored building and began to inspect the window that showed all the varieties of doughnuts.
Wow...what are these? They look absolutely delicious! She walked into the shop, where she was momentarily stunned by a little dinging of a bell as she opened the door.
"Hello! Welcome to Ernie's Doughnuts! How may I help you?" said a booming, enthusiastic voice. A man with a rather large figure turned around and wiped the sweat off of his forehead with a huge stained rag. He smiled as he saw Flora inch towards the counter. It was heavily displayed with children's art, she had noticed. "Hello, young lady! You sure are pretty! What brings you to my doughnut shop?" He laughed, "By the way, my name is Ernie."
Flora smiled shyly, "Hi! I...well...my friends kind of forgot me and I was wandering around and saw your shop! What is a doughnut? I've heard of them, but never have seen for myself. It's a pastry, correct?"
Ernie's jaw dropped, "You don't know what a doughnut is? Young lady, you must have one at once!" he cried.
"O-Okay..." Flora replied, cautiously.
"Do you like lemons?" Ernie asked, crouching beneath the counter. He looked up as he was waiting for the young girl to answer.
Flora nodded, "Yeah...they're okay. There's a lemon doughnut, though? Is it sour?" She scrunched up her face. How interesting...
"Of course not!" Ernie cried, "It's as sweet as jam, it just doesn't taste like it! It's a filled with a sweet lemon cream." He shoved gloves onto his meaty hands and picked a lemon filled doughnut. He stood up straight, regaining his posture and placed a napkin beneath the doughnut. He shoved it towards Flora on the counter. "Take a bite, young lady! You'll like it. Unless you don't like sweets."
"I love sweets, sir! Don't mind if I do!" Flora picked up the doughnut and slowly took a bite, noticing that Ernie was watching her every move.
"W-Well?" Ernie pried, watching the girl.
Flora set the doughnut back on the napkin and wiped her mouth with her arm. "I think," Flora said slowly, "That these doughnuts..."
Ernie nodded vigorously. He watched the teenage take another bite into the pastry.
"Are amazing!" Flora's voice was muffled with food. She giggled; At the tower she was at in St. Mystere she always thought it was to rude to speak with a mouth full of food, and it was, but she was having too much fun to even care.
"I'm glad you like it!" Ernie said, ecstatic.
Perhaps getting lost every once in a while is okay. As long as you get back home, of course.
