The Dandy and his Beauty

Montparnasse tried to hold his trademark smirk while his insides were shot to pieces. Only she , the one with the fire in her eyes, heart of gold and spine of steel could do this to him.

Short, quick and to the point. Muttered warnings and empty threats fired in both directions. A significant look returned with a look of irration.

When Montparnasse looked upon this girl he did not see the dirt layered in her hair - he saw her dark wavy locks, smooth as silk and dark as the night. He saw beautiful curves instead of her too visable ribs . The figure she would naturally have if not her situation, the figure she would have if she just accepted his offers of help. Her dresses were always threadbare even to him. This girl was a beauty of her own and no garment could ever hope to match. The fanciest gown would look threadbare.

If he could take care of her, this girl would never know sadness, never know hunger nor abuse. She would be warm and well loved.

As it was, Eponine stood rigid, with her protective mode on while she looked upon him with distain.

In that moment he realized he would be forever a link to her past.

A horrible past filled with pain and anquish

It did not matter his role

Forever the guardian

It did not matter

Forever just another man of her fathers.

It did not matter

He had left them for her

It did not matter

Forever rejected for someone elses faults

Forever unable to look after the girl with the fire in her eyes as he wished to

To save from being enstinquished

He failed

Only few people witnessed the dandy kneeling on the ground next to the fallen revoloutionaries.

Only few people saw him pulling off his trademark jacket and placing it ever so gently onto the female.

Only some witnessed him raising one of her unwashed hands and kissing the back of it with such sincerity one would think she was a lady of the highest standing.

The dandy remained frozen in place, looking at the girl's closed eyes as if seeking something.

Soon the spectacle lost interest

Soon noone was there to witness anything

Noone noticed the extra body when they were cleared

Only one National guardman paused upon noticing two bodies entertwined

An arm wrapped around anothers back as if able to protect her even in death

Two childhood friends falling asleep together after an exceptionally long adventure

A jacket missing from the couple. Stolen by Thenardier himself.
