The Silver Arm

By Ginny Weasley

NOTE: This fanfic directly precedes the part in the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 33, The Death Eaters, when Peter Pettigrew's arm is restored by Lord Voldermort after using it in a potion to revive the Dark Lord.

-Prologue-

Peter Pettigrew retreated back into the ring of faithless Death Eaters. He marveled at his new arm; it wasn't made of anything he knew of.

'I have two years on these people, do I? And what will happen in 11 years. I go free? The Dark Lord doesn't let Death Eaters go free, oh no.' His eyes widened. He was turning insane inside his long, black cloak.

Peter's stumped, real arm was bleeding, but the silver arm wasn't getting bloodied. The man's eyes rolled around in their sockets. He wiggled his new fingers. It was amazing. He felt the new arm with his normal, flesh one and admired the smooth, silkiness of the silver arm. Mine.

He didn't listen as his master addressed the other Death Eaters. They weren't important because surely he, Peter, would be above them all. He had returned ready to revive his master when those who were even more capable did not. Surely, Peter was the most valued servant.

However, his joy was haunted by a new feeling that had been with him ever since the arrival of the boy, Harry Potter. He felt compelled towards him, although he knew he had to stay in the circle of Death Eaters. Peter remembered the Dark Lord's words when he had told him about how Potter had rescued him. How when older and more skilled wizards were ready to murder Peter, Harry Potter had stopped them. The Dark Lord wasn't pleased and told Peter keep away from Potter from then on, except during the potion making. The Dark Lord said Harry had unwillingly created a magical bond between himself and Peter, something Harry clearly hadn't counted on.

"I was thwarted… thwarted, once again, by Harry Potter…" Voldermort had the complete attention of the Death Eaters. Peter forced himself to listen again, but he kept his eyes on the boy, Harry Potter, tied to the gravestone of the Dark Lord's foolish father.

The Dark Lord was saying a few things that stung Peter. "But Wormtail- -- displaying a presence of mind I would never had expected of him--- convinced Bertha Jorkins…"

'He will know soon. I am invaluable. The servant at Hogwarts isn't worthy.'
