"Let me give you a ride." The way he said it wasn't really a question or even an invite, just something inevitable maybe. She had felt it all day, this tension between them. At first she convinced herself it was just nerves because of the whole ruining his career thing but having spent the day with him, she realized it was much worse; it was biological.
She softly laughed and almost involuntarily leaned in to him, like he was the polar end of a magnet, and her body had no control of its own. She knew this was a mistake but looking into those intense brown eyes, she really didn't care.
"Sure" she smiles and lets him pull her to the passenger side and slips in. All the while her mind is spinning out of control, two different forces fighting over control. One part telling her he's her training officer and she's already made enough mistakes with him. The other is – well pretty much not thinking at all.
Andy keeps her hand tightly on the door handle as she directs him to her building. Her brilliant plan is to jump out and make a run for it as soon as they arrive - like he's wanted man with the cops hot on his tail – which now that she thinks about is a pretty apt description of the current situation.
When they arrive she has the door open and one foot out when she feels his warm hand cover hers and freezes.
"Let me walk you in." He's out of the car and on her side before she realizes he had released her hand.
"Yep." She replies as she hops out and sets a steady pace for the front door. Somehow she manages to unlock the door and head up the stairs without once looking back to see if he followed. As she gets to her apartment door, she finally finds the courage to turn around and is unbelievably relieved to find him smiling at her with that same cocky grin.
"Ah, what the hell." She mumbles as their mouths meet and everything recedes into the background.
The night is actually a blur of clothes, lips, and limbs all tangled in her thoughts. She does remember it was amazing- all three times. She's now lying in the early morning light trying to put the night's events back into some sort of order while listening to Sam softly snore beside her. He was much more tender than she would have imagined. Well by the third time he was tender, the first two were frenzied moments of ecstasy, interlaced with him mumbling over and over again, "Eight months, McNally. EIGHT MONTHS!"
Andy laughs to herself and glances at the clock, "OH MY GOD! Swarek, I mean uh, Sam? Whatever, GET UP, GET UP, GET UP!"
Sam stirs and mumbles "Again?" without raising his head. "I'm kinda beat McNally."
"Nooooo." Andy whines. "We're gonna be late for work." She's already out of bed and headed for the shower.
"Oh that." Sam replies as his eyes involuntarily close again.
Twenty minutes later Sam's is walking into the men's locker room only to be followed in by both Jerry and Oliver.
"Um, I'm pretty sure that's what you were wearing when you left the penny last night pal." Oliver offers with a smirk.
Sam just grunts and throws his t-shirt and jeans into his locker and heads for the shower. Maybe Andy had the right idea in refusing his offer for a lift to work. Only now are the night's events coming back to him. He knows he made a mistake. She's a rookie- not to mention the one that burned him. He hated to admit it but she impressed him a little during their first shift. Her tenacity and courage was a surprise. He had half expected her to be a ditz (I mean she did burn him) who spent the day sucking up to him- well there was some of that. He smiles and shakes his head, trying to put images of last night out of his mind.
She surprised him is all, was smarter than he originally gave her credit for. Yes she did manage to track him down and arrest him but he contributed most of that to dumb luck and him being slowed down by his dim witted partner in crime. And yeah, there's an attraction but last night was mostly a consequent of his being slightly drunk and very horny. I mean it was a long, cold, and lonely eight months is all he's saying.
Drying his head, he walked back toward his locker only to find Oliver guarding it.
"Where's your partner?" Sam smirked. "Doesn't seem like he would leave you alone to do the interrogation."
"Well I see being away for a year hasn't changed your charming personality." Oliver looked around and continued, "So, who was it?"
Sam decided to play dumb. He was used to his friends over-interest in his…uh - personal endeavors. But that didn't mean he was gonna make it easy and he sure as hell wasn't going to involve McNally. Instead he offered Oliver one of his infamous smiles, dimples and all, and continued putting on his uniform.
"You're an ass! Not to mention a horndog, less than a week back and you're already coming in in last night's clothes. Smooth pal, real smooth." Oliver shakes his head and turns to leave stopping when he remembers what he originally wanted to ask Sam before he realized his friend's clothes offered a more enticing story.
"So how did McNally do?"
Sam spins around looking somewhat shocked, "What?"
"McNally, how did she do?"
"Oh…. what?" Sam's sure he's missing something but his mind is slow to catch up.
Oliver sighs loudly. "Look I realize you must have had a mind-blowing night last night but before that you trained a rookie all day. Remember, the rookie, the reason you're back in uniform today. How did she do?"
Sam almost laughs out of relief, "Yeah, yeah, she uh…she did fine."
Oliver gives him another quizzical look then turns to leave, "It's exhausting being your friend, buddy. But glad your back none the less."
By the time Andy gets to work she about needs another shower but with no time hurriedly changes and races into parade without making eye contact with anyone. She sometimes she has the thought process of a cat, if you don't see them, they don't see you.
She drops into the seat next to Traci and smiles quickly dropping her eyes to the table in front of her. She's been weighing the pros and cons of being paired with Sam today (not that she has any say) but is kinda leaning toward NOT. She needs some time to figure out this ridiculous mess she's gotten herself into and being trapped in a car with him all day doesn't seem like the greatest idea. Of course neither was blowing his cover, sleeping with him – well you get the idea.
Unfortunately, for Andy, luck is rarely on her side.
