Bella POV:
When Edward left me, I felt like my heart had been ripped out and thrown onto the floor. He just left. But the one person who stayed was Carlisle. He seemed to make everything OK. Soon I realised that I loved Carlisle, not Edward. Edward was the barrier that kept us apart. Esme left a few years ago because she hated being the apparent invisible wife in their relationship. But that was far from the truth. In fact, she was sleeping with the person who tried to kill me, James. She thought it would destroy Carlisle, which it did. But our relationship just grew stronger over time. We comforted each other in our times of need.
Carlisle POV:
When Esme left me, I felt like I had been trampled on and left to pick up the pieces. Bella was the thing that helped me stay together. Over time I realised that I didn't love her helpfulness, I loved her. She was my singer. Esme and Edward were the things that were holding us back. Over time our relationship grew stronger. It was lucky that I came back instead of Alice, or else this relationship would have stayed behind closed doors. When Edward left her, Bella was a wreck. She thought that she was hideous and that Edward didn't love her. But I knew that Edward never loved her. He just wanted Bella's friend, Jessica. He was just stringing her along like a puppet. But that pain is over, now that we have each other. We completed each other.
One night, when I was sitting in the tree outside Bella's house, I heard her singing to herself through the open window. She was singing:

That was the most beautiful thing that I had ever heard, and later that night, when I went into her room and let her curl up on me, I thought of her and her voice. That made me love her even more than I did. I knew that I would be with her forever and always.
