A/N: This is a persona poem I wrote last year. The assignment was to write in a "persona" (hence the name) of someone missing one of the senses, I chose to write about a blind girl. It indirectly references the Phantom of the Opera.

This may or may not actually become a little friendship fic...I really don't know.

Please enjoy and review~

Hands raw from feeling the rough-hewn walls
Of the tunnel
My feet making eerie echoes off the stone
As I stumbled over the uneven parts
Dampness hung heavily
Clogging my nostrils with the sharp scent
Of mold and decay
Small pebbles cascaded onto my head and shoulders

From above

The ceiling rattled and I knew I must be beneath the road
Cars hissed overhead through puddles
Rain lashed down from the heavens
In thousands of shrieking droplets
The freezing torrent pervaded into the tunnels
I shivered

My hand bumped something
Smooth...concrete
Perplexed, I traced my fingers over the
Worn creases and severe angles
It almost felt like...
...a face
I traced its stony features and wondered,
Though I had long since given up on figuring out how it felt
To have eyes
Absently, I picked at the bumpy moss caked onto the sculpture
But soon resumed picking my way down the tunnel
Abruptly it opened up cavernously
I felt it
The absence of enclosed pressure around my body
The way my footsteps echoed and faded

Hands outstretched
I crept forward tentative as a fledgling
On the eve of its first flight
Crunching gravel under my feet
Suddenly gave away
I flailed as I slid
down...
down...
down...
Until cool water lapped at the toes
Of my soft leather shoes
The clinging, heady smell of lake water
Filled my nose and mouth
I ran my fingers through the chilly waves
They soothed my raw palms
Sitting on the rocky bank
I wondered where the lake came from
Until...
...a deep, melodious organ knell filled the cavern
Accompanied by a mournful, canorous voice
A man's voice
Fear seized me
For the music seemed to come from the lake itself
A siren's song
But listening closer, I realized it came from across the lake
Worlds away
I sat very still
Afraid my presence

Small as it was

Would frighten away the apparition

Of a voice

Too incredible

To belong

To any mortal

The way the cavern echoed
It changed the single voice
Into a thronging angelic choir

As I listened the chill from the rain abated
And a deep sense of contentment settled

Over my heart

I didn't mean to get lost today
Yet somehow I was glad
Soon, my guardians would come searching
But for now, I listened to the bodiless music
I didn't need eyes to enjoy this beauty

So...if this were to become a story, what should the main character be named? (she's approximately 12)
