The first time it happened she thought it was a part of her own nightmare. Staring into the eyes of a T-Rex, breathing heavy, the burn of the flare against her shaking hand. But the scream wasn't hers and as she suddenly woke up she found the cause. Owen clawed at there bed sheets, his sweat soaked face contorted into a look of terror, his lips parting to let out another terror filled scream, this one her name.
She reached over grabbing his shoulders, shaking him and calling his name with an unsteady voice, hoping to God he wakes up. She had never heard him scream before, after everything, genetically engineered monsters, tyrannosaurus rex's and losing his raptors and never had he screamed. If she was being honest hearing it scared her more then the T-Rex did.
He sat up quickly pushing her off him defensively, his breathing was heavy, panic seeping from every pour, his eyes darting around the room looking for danger before stopping on her where she fallin off the bed. "Claire…," he gasped a slightly confused and relieved look on his face.
"Its ok," she says climbing back into bed and taking him in her arms, allowing him to bury his face in her neck. His arms were like a vice grip around her and his shaking racked his entire body. "Where ok,"
"God, Claire i'm so sorry, are you ok, i didn't hurt you right?" he asked pulling away slightly to check her over. She saw the tears in his eyes even though he seemed not to notice them.
"Im fine, you didn't hurt me at all," she replied cupping his face in her hands, "Are you ok?" she knew what he would say to that, the same thing she tells him after every one of her nightmares.
"No," he replies simply, clutching her tighter as if she would be pulled away by a pterodactyl at any moment, "It got you and the boys and i couldn't stop it, Delta, Blue… all of them were dead and i couldn't save you," his breathing is becoming panicked again so she holds him tighter and runs her fingers through his hair.
"But that didn't happen. We made it out because of you, you and your raptors. You saved me and the boys," she whispers to him, it's the truth, her and her nephews would have been some of the firsts to die if it hadn't been for him, she knew that for sure.
He takes a shuddering deep breath and looks at her, "You saved us too you know, you ran away from a T-Rex in heels, you're a far better hero than i am," he smiles a little at the end remembering when he told her she would be useless in those heels. She proved him wrong that's for sure.
She hums softly in agreement a small smile on her face as well, "That just us, amazing we are,"
"You got that right," he says softly before laying down again and pulling her to lay on his chest. Her head resting on his shoulder, her face in his neck with there arms wrapped around each other tightly, "I love you, Claire,"
"I love you too Owen," she feels his fingers slip into her hair and his face pressed against her temple. She knows he won't sleep for the rest of the night, he'll be up thinking over everything he could have done differently and all the things that could have gone even more wrong, she knows because she does the same thing.
So there both a little broken and it took a tragedy and almost getting eaten several times in one day for them to come together but they have each other and that's all that matters. Its ok that there broken because together they fix each other and if only one good thing came from that tragedy then so be it.
