The rain was pouring. It was dark, and cold, and wet.
Remus stood in the middle of the street, watching her walk away.
Water drenched him to the core, but the freezing cold had nothing to do with how cold he had been with her. How cruel he had been.
He hadn't thought he had it in him.
But he stood there, in the rain, and watched her heart break. But it was worse than that.
Because he broke it.
He had lied through his teeth to her, and she had believed him. Believed his unbelievable lies, and taken all his words to heart.
He had destroyed her.
And he didn't feel guilty. He didn't feel remorseful.
It was for her own good.
So why did he want to run after her? He felt numb; he didn't feel anything at all. But he wanted to stop her. He wanted her to tell him she knew he was lying, and that she would never believe it.
Maybe the reason he didn't feel any pain was because he had destroyed the one thing he loved most. What was there to live for now? Now there was only the rain.
