Hey everyone! I have finally made a one shot with Fili and Brynn. For those of you who don't know who Brynn is, she is an OC that I made. I have a full story with her in it set on the quest and multiple one shots. :) Thanks for reading, I hope you like it

(Fili is 6, Kili is 5)

Fili crept into his parent's bedroom – although now it was just his mama's bedroom – with Kili by his side. After hours and hours, Thorin had finally let them in. Fili knew what was happening, and Kili did too to some extent, but he was still a bit young. He was only five after all. They were getting a new sibling. Thorin hadn't told them if it was a brother or sister, just said 'come and see'.

Fili was nervous. He was meeting someone new – that always made him nervous. Plus, he was the oldest male in his home now – that meant this new baby was another person he had to look after. He didn't mind, but he wanted to do it well.

Dis smiled at the boys and waved them forward. When they were seated on the bed she pulled the blanket away from the baby's face. It had dark brown hair and big, blue eyes. A part of him and a part of Kili.

"Meet your new baby sister. Her name is Brynn." Dis said, watching the boys with pride.

Fili breathed in awe of this new little life. A sister. Had it been a boy, he would have known what to expect. But a sister was a whole new experience.

"Brynn." He said, trying it out. He liked how it sounded like his father's name: Barynn. "It suits her."

Dis smiled. "I'm glad you approve, Fili. What about you, Kili? Do you like her?"

Kili wrinkled his nose, apparently thinking about his response. Fili nudged him, impatient.

"She's cute. Is she staying forever?"

"I should hope so!" Thorin exclaimed, smiling. "Is that alright with you?"

"Yes!" Kili said, bouncing on his legs in excitement.

"Good."

Fili looked at little Brynn, studying her face. She was a beautiful girl. He stroked her cheek and she looked so warmly at him he just wanted to burst with love. There was no doubt in his mind that this baby would bring some much needed happiness in their house, now and forever.

Silence filled the air – a happy, contented silence. It almost felt out of place, when only hours prior they had found out their father was dead. Brynn had good timing.

"Fili, Kili? I want to ask you to promise me something." Dis said, looking at them very seriously. "I want you to protect your little sister, to the fullest extent of your power."

"Yes, mama." Fili said quickly, wanting her to know how sincere he was. "You won't have to worry at all."

Kili nodded to what his brother said, though Fili wasn't sure how much he understood yet. He agreed because Fili did, and he trusted his brother. And still, even though he was only five, Fili knew he felt the same protective instinct that he did towards their new little sister. It was going to be more difficult having to worry about two siblings, but Fili would manage. His father would expect him to, and he would do it for him. For him, and for his mama, and for Uncle Thorin. He would protect Kili and Brynn until he was with his forefathers.

Fili took Kili's hand in his and Brynn's in the other, silently promising both of them that he would be their protector through the years to come.
