"Princess get back inside!" A servant shouted.
"No! Mereb! Somebody help him!" I yelled.
I was being dragged back into my room by one of our guards. I was kicking and screaming trying to help my friend. You see I am the princess of Nubia. As princess people have expected so much ever since I was young.
Mereb, who was about my age, was my only friend. But even then I didn't have much time with him. His father was an adviser to my father, the King.
Our country is at war with Egypt. It has been ever since I was little. I don't even remember what we are fighting over.
Mereb's family was just entering through the courtyard gates, when I heard screaming. At first it came from outside the courtyard, then yelling and large, strong footsteps. Soldiers Even though there were only a few, it made an impact.
I raced out of my room, trying to get to Mereb. A crowd of servants and guards followed behind me. Why weren't they trying to help Mereb, I thought. Or maybe they would run ahead. But no, they were after me. They dragged me, kicking and screaming, back to my room. They locked me in. Guards inside and out of my room. They were watching, waiting, protecting. When I finally got out it was to late. Far too late. Mereb was taken. Him and his family gone.
My father tried to make me happy by taking me sailing and I soon forgot. Until now...
"I grew up in your hometown, at least began to grow
I hadn't got to my first shave before the body blow
Egyptians in the courtyard, my family in chains
You witnessed our abduction which possibly explains
How I know you
How I know you
Before that fateful morning my family enjoyed
A privileged existence for my father was employed
As advisor to the king no less which surely rings a bell
For as your are his daughter, you probably can tell
How I know you
Yes I know you
You know too much and what you say
Is better left unknown
And now I'm just a slave like you
Our lives our not our own
I never have abandoned
And nor I think could you
That spark of hope for freedom
No terror can subdue
My only hope is silenceYou've never seen my face
No you remain a princess
In any time or place
You don't know me
Yes, I know you
You don't know me
How I know you
How I know you"
