DM Margo, Edith and the Fire Brigade

Margo couldn't wait. The fire brigade was coming to talk to her school. That meant she'd get to see the big fire engine. Margo was amazed at the sight of all the gadgets and safety equipment they used to put out fires and recuse people.

After school, she told Edith and Agnes all about it. ''And I think they might be coming to your school as well'' she added. ''Cool!'' Edith exclaimed. She'd heard of something that fire crews use to cut things and she really wanted to see that happen for real.

A week later or so, Edith was delighted to find a big fire engine standing in the playground of hers and Agnes's school. The two sisters spent the day learning how to call 999, having a go with the hoses that the fire crew used to put out any fires and having much more fun than they knew what to do with.

Edith had actually wanted to turn on the hose, but the fire crew said it could only be turned on in a real emergency much to her annoyance. By the end of the school day, Edith decided that when she grew up. She wanted to be a fire fighter. She wanted to wear a coat as black as ninjas.

She wanted to have a go with all those cool tools. She especially wanted to have a go with the Jaws of Life. But most of Edith wanted everyone to think her as the boldest bravest fire fighter that ever was.

On her way home with Agnes, Edith saw a cat stuck up a tree. She decided to try and rescue it. Edith slowly started to climb the tree branch by branch. She crawled along on her stomach towards the cat.

Suddenly Edith found that she couldn't get down! She was so high up! ''What's the matter?'' Agnes shouted from so far down below. ''I'm stuck. I can't get down'' Edith moaned. At that moment, Margo came walking past. ''Edith? What on earth has happened to you?'' she gasped. ''I was trying to rescue cat, when I sort of climbed a little too high up and I got stuck'' Edith admitted. ''Don't move!'' Margo shouted up to her from down below. ''I'll go and call for help''.

While Margo was gone, Edith clung as tightly as she could to the branch for dear life. She'd broken her leg falling out of a tree before and she didn't want that to happen ever again.

Then who should come to her rescue, but the fire brigade. Edith watched as two firemen placed a ladder against the tree. Then one of the firefighters climbed up and with Edith over her shoulder, she carried her down to the safety of the ground.

Gru who had seen everything said ''Well done Margo, you did the right thing by calling the fire brigade''. He glanced at Edith who couldn't have been gladder to be back on the ground. ''Dis'' Gru continued ''calls for a celebration. How about we have fish and chips for dinner tonight?''.

''Oh yes please'' Margo agreed happily. That night, the minions were especially delighted with having fish and chips for dinner. ''Eat, eat, eat'' they chanted hungrily. Gru couldn't help smiling at them.
