Pairing: Cameron/John

Rating: PG

Summary: She doesn't understand humans.

A/N: Written during the early part of season one.

She doesn't understand humans. She doesn't understand the way they think or what they feel. She doesn't understand their rituals or beliefs. She doesn't get their predilection for drama or the way they allow their emotions to cloud their rationality. Mostly she doesn't understand the way they change.

Cameron knew John Conner. She knew he still missed his mother and that he drooled in his sleep. She knew he was almost as practical as a terminator and that he never asked his men to do anything he was unwilling to do himself. She knew he was moody for days anytime they lost ground and she knew he never lost his control with anyone except her.

This boy that she was supposed to protect. This boy who looked like John and had the same DNA as John, who was supposed to be John, wasn't the same person she left. He was new and she didn't understand him. She didn't understand how this John, who pouted when he didn't get his own way and had never killed a man, had never had to leave someone to die so others could live, was the same person she had left.

Despite logic, they were two different people and she couldn't reconcile one with the other. The only common ground they had was that she loved both of them.
