AN: Did anyone else think the ending of Cinderella in the Cardboard was a bit shippy? Well here's a tag that follows the ep... i have another one in the works too. See which one you prefer, though i suppose they won't really be mutually exclusive... Anyway, enjoy, review, let me know what you thought of the ep.
A Drink to the Future
His apartment was a mess. There were empty bottles littering the floor and coffee table next to an almost empty pizza box. Not that he was sorry he'd insisted they eat before they got into the hardcore drinking, but there was melted cheese congealed in his carpet, which wasn't her fault as he'd been the one that had dropped it and then walk over it ensuring that it twined with the carpet thread.
His head was pounding so badly that he could barely keep his eyes open and his feet moving. He'd expected the hangover, but it had been a long time since he'd had one so bad. But it was for Bones and he'd do anything for her, he'd even let her drink his best scotch with minimum protests. Where was Bones for that matter, she'd been there when he'd fallen asleep, and surely she couldn't be feeling any better than he was. Then he remembered why he'd dragged himself out of bed in the first place. The doorbell.
"Oh hey Bones, was just thinking about you"
"Hi Booth" she looked nervous, Bones didn't get nervous "Wow, you look terrible" always honest, most of the time he liked that about her.
"Thanks, you've looked better too" the nervousness was back, his eyes flicked down to her hands which were twisting awkwardly through the handle of a paper bag.
"I just wanted to come and apologise for drinking all your scotch last night" Booth nodded and ushered her inside not bothering to apologise for his filthy apartment.
"It's okay Bones, you're my friend, it's what friends do"
""Thankyou" She told him sincerely.
"Not necessary, but it's appreciated"
"I got you something" she admitted gesturing to the bag she'd brought with her.
"Oh?"
"Yeah" she handed him the bag waiting impatiently while he pushed aside far more tissue paper than he thought was necessary.
"Macallan... single malt. Twenty five year old" he recited from the label "Geez Bones, where did you get this, you were only here a few hours ago" The woman constantly surprised him.
"Actually it's two in the afternoon and I left just before ten. And I have a friend who has a cellar"
"Oh. Wow, Bones, I can't believe this, I've never even dreamed of having a Macallan single malt"
"I'm glad you like it, but Booth I would recommend against trying it right now"
"Not even on my mind Bones, I had enough scotch last night to last me a year"
"I am sorry about that." She sent him a sad smile.
"I told you Bones, you don't need to be sorry, it was worth it, and I really did mean it when I said you'd find love"
"I believe you, you've never broken a promise to me before."
"No I haven't" he didn't dare tell her that if she looked that love might already be there, she had to come to it in her own time, and she was getting closer to it every day. Closer to him.
