Pre-Strex
Kevin was pushing himself through the big crowd, which had taken over most of the roads, walking areas and even the dog park. All of them staring themselves blind in the hot desert sun, as the speakers throughout town told them do to.
His lovely scientist had warned him against the people who was talking.
Do not listen to them, Kev. If you look into the light, you will be another of their mindless zombies.
Kevin took a deep breath, as he opened the doors into the radio station, listening to the murmuring from the radio station's management room.
He could see the shadow of Daniel on the tinted window and he could heat him talking muffled with a woman.
Instead of standing to linger more, Kevin hurried into the control room and turned on the on air sign. He could feel his heart pounding, unsure if anyone was really listening to his shows anymore. The only one he could trust to listen to his show was Felipe and his set of productive . . . no. Not that word. Kevin took a deep breath, but as he was getting ready to start his morning show, a hard pounding was on the door.
"Kevin, its Lauren Mallard. Please come out. We need to talk to you. About your productivity!" her voice gleamed with the horrible stitched smile.
"I'm working! I cannot stop my radio show!" he answered, his hands shaking.
"I think you'd want to come out here. We have a special guest with us." Her voice was cutting through the door and he knew it was not good.
He got up from the soft office chair, walking fallen to the door. Unlocking it.
Lauren and Daniel was standing outside the door. The producer looking professional and cool as always, while the young woman was grinning and bloody.
In front of both of them Felipe was.
His face wretched in the common Strex smile and his eye sockets empty. There was traces of blood down his face and neck.
"What did you do to him?" Kevin sneered, reaching out for his biochemist.
Instead of taking the radio host's hand gently – as he normally used to – he pulled his body close, breathing in his face.
"I chose this for myself, Kev. You should try it. It is quite . . . spectacular." the biochemist grinned. Exposing a set of needle sharp teeth that had not been there yesterday. He was quite sure of that.
"Felipe!" he pledged.
"This is not you. You hate Strex, don't . . . Don't turn into them!"
Kevin could feel his eyes betraying him. Tears dripping down on his nose bridge, his glasses fogged up.
"I love Strex! Why don't you love them, Kev?"
The anger in Felipe's voice was there, and Kevin tried to wrestle free.
"No! Let go of me!" he began hitting his former boyfriend. He knew he would never be able to love anyone inside of Strex, and now Felipe was one of them.
The Biochemist's was stronger than he looked, and as Kevin could not get free of the grip, Felipe began pulling him out to the station management room.
Kevin began fighting back, screaming and kicking. He was deeply afraid and he had no filter to hide it with.
Lauren just shook her head.
"Poor little, radio host. This is for the best!" she tsk'ed, following them and just behind her Daniel was walking.
If Kevin did not know, better he would assume that, the producer felt sorry for him.
As he was pulled inside the room the brightness of the light blinded him and even if as his eyes was closed he could feel the burning warmth of a sun.
"What's in here!?" he yelled, kicking Felipe in the crotch.
The Biochemist didn't even budge under the pain.
"The Smiling God." They all said in unison.
Kevin shuddered.
