I will update, Betting Odds. Thank you to everybody who's reviewed.
I agree, I've always pictured Lily as a fireball, otherwise how could she stand Snape.
I was hearing Somewhere We Know - by Keane and this was born.
The Bold what only Severus can hear.
Sorta companion piece to The Very First.
He tried to blink his eyes, but the shadows overwhelmed the meager light in the room. He stood tall, disciplining the ever present fear.
He would not forsake his task, that was his promise to her. A silvery shimmer moved around the dark lord. It headed towards him, an airy laugh skimming against Severus' heavy cloak.
He shivered as the cold coils of the monster elongated. They moved before him, seeming to tighten around him. The snake bobbled above him, a disgusting example of the lengths to secure immortality.
'It's time, Sev. Your fight is over.' he heard it but refused to believe. He is much too valuable. He has given everything to secure the boy's future.
He cannot be done. 'I'm here for you…and only you.'
His head snapped around, twisting his neck painfully. "My Lord--let me go to the boy--"his words are ignored. Lord Voldemort's contained fury, uncoiling and writhing around him, begging to be unleashed.
'You've made me so proud, my dearest.' the voice slipped in and out of his head, making his hearing muffled.
Sudden pressure ripped him from the it, he screamed in anguish. He could not take a second parting. 'Don't leave…' he begged it, 'Never.' it replied. The strength in his body vaporized and he felt the floor rush up to greet him. He saw the green eyes but they were the boy's .
"Take it." he rasped forcing all his tragic history into a single vial. He wanted to apologize, he wanted to perhaps hug him but most of all he wanted him to know how proud he was of him.
'Severus' it called calmly. "Look at me." he said. 'I am' she replied.
Severus Snape rose from the shack floor, his face gesturing his surprise. They stood above his corpse, her son looking far more stricken than he would have ever expected.
"You would be so proud, Lily." he mentioned to the silvery woman beside him. "Much more than you could have known. I have always watched over you." she said taking his own silvery hand in hers.
"Why?" he asked genuinely puzzled. "My love for you did not die with me. You've always carried it with you, hence your patronus." He blushed, his face illuminating the room. "You knew?"
She pulled him closer, "It was the only way to come back and comfort you." Severus saw Harry race towards the castle, the impossibility of the task set before the boy, hitting him hard. "What will become of him?" he queried.
"I'm not sure, but whatever happens. He'll not forget you, Severus Snape." Lily nodded solemnly. No words could describe the feeling in his chest, it expanded and for the first time he felt peace.
"Good Luck, Po…Harry." The night sky was silent, mourning the passing of so many.
