Pansy apparates to Draco's apartment and is startled by the crashes coming from his room. She sighs. Another crash resounds from Draco's room, and she runs in that direction.
"Drake, what's wro..." She trails off.
Draco Malfoy is standing in the middle of a wreckage, about to smash a lamp on the tile floor. Pieces of glass and plastic are already surrounding him, and his feet are bleeding. He doesn't seem to feel the pain.
Draco looks up and notices Pansy staring at him, concerned. Pansy gasps at the look on his face. It is not humane, more like an animal. He throws the lamp in his hands at her. Pansy knocks it aside with a simple spell.
The blonde man sits down in the wreckage and buries his face in his hands. He rocks back and forth. Pansy cautiously clears a path in the mess and walks towards Draco.
Draco looks up. His normally shining silver eyes are dull and grey. His face is devoid of emotion. He just stares at Pansy.
"Drake?" She asks nervously.
"We used to hate her, you know?" The sentence is more like a question than a statement. "I used to hate her. She was the filthy, mudblood know-it-all that was scum beneath our feet. We still hate her, don't we?" He looks at her desperately. When he receives no answer, his face screws up.
"I hate her. I hated her. I'll always hate her. She was so scary, with that bushy hair and the magic abilities." He pauses, then continues.
"I hate her more than anything. I hate her hair, her eyes, her smile, her tears... But I hate her more than anything because of one fucking reason. Do you know why?" Pansy shakes her head.
He buries his head in his hands, and Pansy looks at him sadly.
Draco looks up at her, and she gasps. For the first time, he looks like a child. A lost, sad child. His eyes are wide and watery.
"I hate her so much... because I love her. Because I can't forget her. Because I'm supposed to hate her, but I don't. Because... I killed her." Pansy turns pale.
"Why can't I forget? Why does she have to haunt me? Why can't I forget I killed the girl I loved, that I killed Hermione Granger?" That night, Draco sobs as Pansy tries and fails to soothe him.
