James Lester swung by the mammoth enclosure as he entered the A.R.C building.
Abby looked up from her desk as he came through the door and presented her with a bulky parcel.
"What's this?" she grinned
"My wife thought you would like some hand-knitted baby clothes for the twins, we had a lot given that we didn't use when the children were young."
"Thank you!" Abby came around her desk to impulsively hug him but he characteristically stepped back.
"I'm just the messenger. I'll let her know you're pleased."
"Tell her that's very sweet and we'll take some photos of James and Nicole for her."
"Ah, yes." Lester straightened his tie and looked absurdly pleased, as he always did when he heard his godson's name.
He turned to go. Suddenly there was a cry.
He swung back to look wide-eyed at Abby, who looked back, her face stricken.
"I'm going to assume that was that frenetic piñata you call Rex, because I KNOW you don't think this is a nursery."
Abby gulped, a mannerism she had picked up from her husband "I'll take care of it, Sir."
He held her gaze for a beat "Good." He left, Abby let out the breath she had been holding and went behind the screen in the corner, where her twins were waving chubby fists from their double pram.
"You are going to get me in so much trouble…"
"Abby, come to the main room, please." Jess was paging her.
Abby tucked the blankets firmly around the twins and walked quickly to where Jess sat amongst her many screens, seamlessly controlling everything at once. She spared a quick glance and smile for Abby, "Connor wants to speak to you."
Connor's face was being, not very steadily, filmed by someone with their communicator and his voice was strained.
"Abbs! What did we do, first thing, after we woke up this morning?"
Abby blinked and shot an embarrassed look at Jess and also Matt, Emily and Becker, who had wandered up to listen in. "Connor, you know."
"Please Abby, just say it."
Lester walked over, a mug of coffee, cream, no sugar, in hand. "What is he wanting?"
Oh, Lord. Abby winced; this couldn't be happening "Connor Temple, you know very well what we did when we woke up this morning and I am not going into detail!"
"And then the phone went and the daycare centre had a burst water main and you took Jimmy and Nicky in, yeah?"
Abby could feel Lester's stare. She squirmed, then froze "You went through an anomaly?!" she snapped
Connor looked guilty "Well…yeah."
"You went through an anomaly and now you're checking to see if anything's changed!" Abby was working up a head of steam now.
"Abbs…"
"When you get back here…!"
"Enough!" Lester got their attention. He went on in a quieter tone. "First, Abby, you need to move certain civilians to the medical centre, for today. And Mr Temple, I will expect you and your team back here for immediate debrief!" He looked around, "Well, don't you have some babies to coo over? I'm sure saving people from dinosaur incursions or stopping the world imploding, can take second place…"
His team scattered.
