This is a poem I wrote for a Bible Camp Competition. I won first place overall (out of 50 groups and other teens), so I wanted to share it with the fan fiction site. It's titled "Sunday Reading." It may not seem award winning at first glance, but the judges said my symbolism was the most impressive part. So I will explain all of the symbolism at the bottom.
Sunday Reading
A noble, kind, but lonely man
Leans against a tree.
A thick black book is in his hand
And silently he reads.
The words which grace the pages
Are bold, and yet they hide.
Although he does not read aloud,
I hear his voice inside.
Symbolism:
The man is actually Jesus if you pay attention to the details. He's leaning against a "tree" which is symbolic of the cross, which was carved from a tree.
The book in his hand is obviously the bible.
The words he is reading are bold, meaning they have a great importance to the world, and yet they hide, meaning they must be pondered over in order to discover their truth.
And the final part means that although Jesus does not speak to us in person in our lives, we still hear his voice telling us what to do through the grace of the holy spirit!
