Lifetime
It's a beautiful day outside. Or, more precisely, the end of a beautiful day. The sun is setting, far, far away on a calm city. Clouds are becoming pinker and the sky is overrun by an orange veil. All is slowly preparing to the imminent night.
Tick, tock, tick, tock…
The clock on the wall begins to tick with her new battery, as the braid-haired girl returns to her desk chair. She stays immobile, sat on it, as if time were still stopped. Finally, she takes and opens a diary on which is written 'Madotsuki'.
Her name doesn't feel quite right, even when it's just ink and not voice.
Tick, tock, tick, tock…
Even so, she takes a pen from a pencil case and starts to write, wearing the same face as ever. She writes what she sees in her dreams, describes all of it, all of them. The lonely girl who she saw one day, sleeping on a bench in winter with her wool cap and her shabby coat. Monoko, who cries because of Monoe's constant teasing. Poniko, with her strange friend named Uboa. Shitai, who laugh and keeps making bad jokes to everyone. Finally, Masada, her school teacher, who still plays piano, even when she sleeps.
Tick, tock, tick, tock…
She stops writing. It's almost time. Searching in her drawers, she takes a little medicine box from it and detaches some pills, swallowing them all short after. Taking a look at the clock, she stands up, closing her precious diary and carefully putting it on her neatly-made bed. She walks in front of her glass doors and turns back, staring at her bedroom.
Tick, tock, tick, tock…
Everything is at its place, as it ever was. The bookcase is as it usually is, without any book missing. The desk is as tidy as always, and her bed is made. Even her mug of tea, on her coffee table, is still smoking. Nothing is out of place.
Except for her.
Tick, tock, tick, tock…
Opening the glass doors, she goes outside on her balcony and watches the scenery that takes place rights before her eyes. The city is now silent and the atmosphere is very calm, very relaxing. As she rests on the railing, looking pensively at the myriad of roofs, then glances at the stepladder abandoned next to her. Taking it and putting it against the railing, she makes one, two, three steps on it before feeling a strange, but pleasant, dizzying sensation. She smiles and opens her mouth for the first time in months, letting out her scratchy, soft voice.
"It's as if nothing has changed, and never will, right ? "
She makes one last step. Next thing she knows, she dives into her dreamed life, letting her tears of joy flew all over her face until they become as red as the setting sun, and splash all over the asphalt of the road.
Tick, tock, tick, tock…
Inside of the tiny bedroom, the clock continues to dispense and count the never-ending seconds. As if nothing has changed, and never will.
As if that girl wasn't needed in the first place.
As if that 'Madotsuki' never existed.
The end.
Okay, so that's my first time ever posting a fanfiction in English, so yeah, if you see some mistakes or if you know of to make me improve myself, please say so in a review. Anyway, tell me what you think of that.
That was The Last Hour, have a good night.
