Disclaimer: I am not JK Rowling. So I don't own them.
If I was and did, I'd be rich. But I'm not.
It's Sirius's seventh birthday, and Remus wants to surprise him. Will it all go according to plan?
It's my eighteenth, I had birthday fluff on my mind xD
The Sweetest Gift
"Moony, what are you doing in here?" James wandered into the messy kitchen, followed closely by a rolly polly Peter, to find Remus covered from head to toe in flour, very nicely matching the powdered walls and cabinets. The countertop in front of him was littered with sugar, eggshells, and bits of dough. Broken eggs covered the floor beneath the wobbly stepstool upon which Remus was perched. He was wearing a blue- and flour-colored apron and holding a rather large mixing bowl, stirring its contents with a wooden spoon.
"Today is Sirius's seventh birthday. I wanted to make him something special..." Remus jumped off the stepstool and wandered over to James. Peter poked his fat little nose over the edge of the bowl and stared at the goop Remus was stirring. "Trouble is..."
"...you don't know how to cook, do you, Moony?" James grinned and shook his head. Remus pulled the bowl away from Peter's prying nose and nodded. James laughed and pulled the stepstool up to the bookshelf. Stretching as high as he could, he retrieved a book from the top shelf.
Leafing through the pages of Muggle Cooking; Doing it the Hard Way, James found a recipe that didn't seem to difficult. He brought it over to the counter and set it down.
"Alright, Moony, let's see if we can't do this the right way. Wormy, you watch the door and make sure Pads doesn't come in here." Peter nodded wildly and waddled over to the door, plopping his fat little frame heavily onto the floor. He sat there rocking back and forth on his plump little bottom, humming to himself, completely content to be helping his friends.
About half an hour after Peter took up watch, Sirius padded down the hallway to the kitchen where Peter had fallen asleep against the door. Sirius kicked him awake with a start. "I DIDN'T DO IT!" He looked around before realizing who had awoken him. "What's going on in there?" Sirius asked pointedly. "Umm...nothing?" Peter stammered, just as a sudden clang of metal and a "Moony, you clutz!" emerged from behind the closed door.
Sirius stepped to the left to go around Peter, but Peter jumped up and stood in his way. Sirius stepped to the right, Peter stepped with him. Left, right, left, right. Finally, Sirius had had enough. "Wormtail, what is going on in there?"
Peter opened his mouth to speak, but was interrupted by the kitchen door being flung open. A puff of flour emerged. followed by Remus and James, both completely covered in cake makings. In Remus's hands was a sad looking cake with "Happy Birthday, Sirius" and a wobbly pawprint written in messy frosting. He held it out to Sirius. "Happy birthday," he muttered shyly with a twinkle in his eye.
Sirius stood for a moment, staring at the messy cake in surprise. Then he gave Remus a huge hug, making both boys blush. "This is the best birthday present ever." Sirius gave Remus a light kiss on the cheek, deepening the hue of his already bright red face. Sirius wasn't the only one enjoying this birthday.
