Shuffling through the temple's corridors, Katara stifled a yawn. Everyone had long since gone to bed, but she was unable to sleep. Truthfully, she had had difficulty sleeping for nearly a week. There were many reasons for her insomnia, but all of it was connected to one thing; worry.
She worried about her friends, worried there might not be enough time, worried she might not be able to protect someone she cared about, and she worried about the soldiers locked away in prison since the failed invasion attempt.
However, she kept her anxiety private, not wanting to burden her friends. They all had enough to deal with.
As she walked through the silent temple, she wondered if talking to Appa or Momo might help. The animals couldn't talk or give advice, but sometimes a listening ear was enough.
So she headed for the area where the bison usually slept, careful not to make any noise. As she drew closer, the sound of the beast's calm breathing reached her ears, slowly growing louder. Turning a corner, Katara saw Appa and gave a small scream of surprise.
There, curled up against the bison's soft fur, was Zuko. He stirred slightly, but thankfully remained sleeping. Cautiously, the waterbender stepped closer, eyeing his resting form. She had never seen him look so peaceful before. It seemed so strange, but at the same time, almost... heart-warming?
Shifting in his sleep, he sighed contentedly, a small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth, Katara felt her own lips tug upward. He was so cute!
She sat down beside him, leaning her head on Appa and watching the slight movements Zuko made in his sleep. Though she felt like she was invading his privacy, she couldn't seem to stop herself.
That's when it hit that, since seeing Zuko in his peaceful state, she hadn't worried about anything. She didn't feel antsy or nervous or fearful anymore, just... calm.
With a smile on her face, Katara closed her eyes and let dreams slowly fill her mind.
Author's Notes: So, yeah... Just a cute little plot bunny I got. Nothing special.
