The hall was quiet except for the muffled sounds of the few remaining people still awake after a day of celebrating. Some, not yet ready to give in to sleep.
He sat on an edge of the pool of water silently running his fingers through it, not even aware he was doing so. His thoughts on the day's activities crowded his mind.
Alexander was married now, as he should be.
A question asked of him by someone during the evening kept coming back to him. He didn't remember who had asked; it didn't matter in the least.
"Why does he stay now when he is no longer wanted?"
He hadn't answered, only walked away. If he had answered, it would have been so simple, so uncomplicated.
"Why?" Because he could live without him, but he was alive with him.
