A/N: Just some fluff. This is my first Marauder fic; so no flames, ok?  I've just never done this, so I thought why not give it a try?

Fun & Games

Snape sat in his usual seat, at his usual time every evening, in the library.  His quill was madly scratching at the parchment.  He took great pride in his potions assignments.  In fact, he was several months ahead of his class.  He wrote out all the Laws of Infusions and Properties of Serums.  He insisted to himself that he knew more about the subtle science than his old coot professor.  He spent many long nights pouring over spell books and immersing himself into the darker arts.

Madam Pince, who normally wouldn't have left a student without her supervision, retired that evening at ten, like she normally did, leaving him with the keys.  He had the entire library to his disposal, including the restricted section.

The silence, which Severus was so fond of, was suddenly interrupted.  Muffled laughter was sweeping across the room.  He peered over his History of Fungibook and, with a curled lip, snarled, "Potter."

"Oi, Snivellus!"

Sirius elbowed James in the ribs while shouting, "Come on Snivellus, you can tell us what you're reading, you know.  Tell us your secret.  How do you do it?  How do you cheat?"

Snape continued to read, despite their jeering.

What Snape found quite astonishing was the fact that Lupin, a Gryffindor prefect, put up with their behavior.  The three of them made their way to the corner of the library and gingerly sat down at the desk next to Snape's.

James picked up a book that was left on the desk and began to page through it.

Snape glanced over and muttered, "It's a book, Potter; you read it."

He looked over at Snape and smiled, "How cute, Snivellus."

James then turned towards Sirius and Lupin and began whispering.

No doubt they were planning ther next wave of pranks.  Such foolishness, he expected, should have occurred in the common room of Gryffindor Tower.  This was not the time, nor the place.

Snape's hatred towards James was evolving into somewhat of a distraction.  His eyes would wander over in their direction.  And on occasion their barely audible conversation became a preoccupation for his work.

Wanting more than anything to say something, Snape blurted out, "No wonder Lily doesn't want you!"

Sirius turned around to face him, "Don't be such a damned git, Severus!"

Snape furrowed his brow and shot back, "Why are you three in here anyway?"

James responded with a grin, "Are our silly incantations bothering you, Snivell?"

Immediately Snape returned to his work.  As he was dipping his quill in fresh ink he let out, "The world's not a kind place James.  You'll find that out; and, you won't like it one bit.  You'll see it's not all fun and games."
