A Plea for Help

Hello! My name is Mary and I am a high school senior from New York State. In my history class, we have been assigned our last, huge, term paper. (Like, 40% of my grade huge). I have decided to write about fanfiction, a topic that was just recently introduced to me and I find absolutely fascinating. Basically, I want to know, what's in it for the writers? Are you here to hone your craft? To bring characters back to life? Please tell me! I'm so curious!

So, if you would be so kind as to tell me as much as you want to in a review, I would be honored. Most specifically, I want to know why you write fanfiction, and maybe what your favorite genre or fandom is. If you willing to tell me your age or gender, great! If not, I'll take anything I can get!

Thank you SO much for anything you might be able to share me, and know that your anonymity is totally protected. If I choose to use any of your quotations in my paper, I will quote you using your username.

Note: I want everyone to know that I am approaching this with an entirely open mind. I will not judge you for whatever you say, think, support, or ship. That's the stuff I need to make this a halfway decent essay!

Honestly, I've been on this website for less than a day and have been blown away by the level of dedication and talent of some of these writers. Like, you guys have written full-length books! That's AMAZING. I am in awe, and I truly just want to get an honest look at the fanfiction community and what it does for its users!
