Tchang Zu's Resentment
It is the day of the Anointment, when one of Xua Wing's children, the Demon Sorcerers, will be chosen to safeguard the powers of the Animals of the Chinese Zodiac. They have passed on after many years, and a guardian must be decided. The Demon Siblings have trained as hard as they could, but the last to be chosen are Shendu, the young fire demon and adopted son of Xua Wing, and Tchang Zu, his older brother and youngest birth son.
Tchang Zu is very sure he will win guardian ship because he performed every task his father gave him well, including spells and control over his element. Shendu is too busy playing guardian to the humans of China by using his spells to bring prosperity and fortune. Though Shendu has control over his fire power, he has been into the human world too much to show his father how much he's learned.
"I guess we know who will be the Guardian of the Zodiac Powers, Sulfur Breath," Tchang Zu bragged.
"And people say I'm full of hot air," Shendu remarked.
The two are gathered around by the rest of the siblings and sat before their father Xua Wing, First Chi Wizard and Ruler of Avalon, the Island of Magic. In his hand is an orb that contains all twelve powers of the Chinese Zodiac.
"This orb contains powers of the Animals of the Chinese Zodiac," he explained to his children, "Tchang Zu and Shendu have already tied after passing many tests to prove themselves worthy of safeguarding the powers. However, who among them gets chosen is not for me to decide, but to the powers themselves. When the orb glows, it means the powers have chosen their guardian; one who has proven to be the most noble among them."
"May the best Demon Sorcerer win, Brother," Shendu wishes him luck.
"I plan to," Tchang Zu bragged.
Both demon teens stand up and await the orbs decision. First, Xua Wing points the orb at Tchang Zu, but it did not glow for him, making Tchang Zu look confused. Then, he points it at Shendu and the orb glows a rainbow-colored light like an aurora.
"The powers are choosing me?" Shendu asks.
"You put your powers to use by helping others, Shendu," Xua Wing explains, "You prove to be the most noble of the powers.
The Powers of the Chinese Zodiac take the form of twelve talismans, each with a mark of their respected animals and flew into Shendu as he absorbs the power. As the rest of the Demons congratulate him, Tchang Zu confronts his father angrily.
"Why has he been chosen, Father?" he yells angrily, "Shendu is not blood; just some kid you took home!"
"Tchang Zu, that is now way to talk about your brother!" Xua Wing reprimands, "As for why he's chosen, he put his spells and teaching to good use by helping humans with their crops and rebuilding after devastation and misfortune! You used your powers to show off! You are still the Demon of Thunder, and that is still a higher honor!"
His father walks away from him to congratulate Shendu. Tchang Zu got even angrier when he saw his father with Shendu happily.
"He replaced me with that dragon," he growled to himself, "I'll make him pay, even if I have to destroy the magic realm to do that."
So begins his centuries to plot his revenge and dominance over the Magic Realm, and the beginning of upcoming evil.
