Lapis sat huddled up on the couch, watching Camp Pining Hearts. Or at least trying to. It was cold, very cold. Lapis shifted and turned. While the cold didn't really affect her, it was still uncomfortable, painful, even. It was well into November, as the month was called on Earth, and it was getting increasingly colder each day. Lapis sighed. She noticed she could she her breath in the air. The barn didn't have any kind of heating, and a dress wasn't really best for the cold. Lapis shivered and curled up tighter. She didn't know how much more of this she could take.
Lapis heard rustling down stairs. Peridot was probably building something. Surely she has to be cold too. Lapis tried to distract herself by watching TV, but the cold was just too much to bear. Eventually, she gave it up and curled up tighter. Lapis closed her eyes and tried to fall asleep.
Peridot wasn't doing very well. She was trying to make another meep morp, but the cold was killing her. She wrapped her arms around herself and let out a brrrr. Hearing the TV upstairs, she looked up. Lapis must be cold too. Peridot looked over at a pile of stuff, and walked over, pulling out a blanket. She clambered up the ladder to the second floor.
Lapis heard Peridot coming up the ladder, and opened her eyes. Peridot was standing there with a blanket. "You cold?" Peridot asked her.
"Yeah." Lapis replied quietly. Peridot walked over and draped the blanket over her. Lapis pulled the blanket closer to her, but she knew it wouldn't be enough to warm her. Peridot reached out and stroked her hair gently. As she stepped back, Lapis opened the blanket, inviting Peridot to join her. Peridot looked shocked for a moment, eyes darting from the outstretched blanket, to Lapis' face, then back again. Lapis motioned with her head, answering Peridot's question, and Peridot climbed under the blanket with her.
As Peridot snuggled up against her, Lapis closed the blanket around them. She noticed Peridot looked a little nervous. Lapis tightened her arm around Peridot. Peridot squirmed a bit and wrapped her arms around Lapis, hugging her close. She turned her face inward and grumbled about the cold. "You'll warm up soon." Lapis assured quietly. Peridot just mumbled something sour and buried herself further into Lapis.
Lapis blushed slightly and ran her fingers into Peridot's hair, massaging her scalp and sending small shivers up Peridot's spine. Lapis twined the blonde strands through her fingers and Peridot purred -yes, actually purred- and turned her head up to give Lapis a content look of sheer happiness, before burying back into Lapis with a sigh. "Are you warmer?" Lapis asked.
"Mmmph..hmmmph.." Peridot murmured softly, yawning. "I'm, your, your actions..are causing me to feel," she yawned "sleepy..."
Lapis smiled. "Then go to sleep."
"But...are you warm?" Peridot asked, lifting her lids as best she could.
"I'm fine."
"Okay, I'll sleep, but only for a bit..." Peridot murmured. She could feel the tiredness start to envelope her being. She hugged Lapis closer and let herself fall into the comforting silence.
Lapis could tell Peridot had fallen asleep when her light breathing evened out, short breaths small. Lapis buried her face into Peridot's hair. She was warm now. Not even the frigid cold of winter could invade their cuddling. "Love you, Peri." Lapis murmured. Peridot seemed to mumble something back in her sleep, and Lapis giggled. "I'll take that as an 'I love you too'." Lapis whispered. Lapis kissed Peridot's head and closed her eyes.
"I love you too..." Peridot whispered in her sleep. "I love you too."
