It's been three years since Sherlock jumped and John's coming to terms with it, until Mycroft turns up with a very interesting plea for help... And then there are three very quiet, and very hesitant knocks on the door (filling a prompt given to me on tumblr)

1. Prologue

Three years. It had been three years since John Watson had lost his best friend. Two years since he had moved back to Baker Street. One and a half years since he had started dating again and three months since he gave up on dating. John's final date ended with him being told, yet again, that they couldn't compete with the dead.
