After Elena graduated she had decided being with Damon was the safest bet for her. It was all she had been accustomed to after this hectic year. But she always thought about him. But she knew her love was still there, deep down inside.
She had turned for Damon, or she asked him to turn her. She convinced herself that she turned for Damon, but she knew that she turned for him. She felt worse than Katherine. She was leading one on, while still secretly being stuck on the other one. She didn't know if it was much of a secret though.
She didn't know why, but she still cared. It was wrong. She could never forgive him. Not after everything he had done, just to get back at the stupid hybrid. Klaus.
She lived at the boarding house with both of them. As she was left home alone, she felt desperate for him suddenly. It seemed unbearable for her. She knew he was upstairs in his room journaling.
She felt herself give in, in a blur she was up standing in the doorway of his room.
"I love you," Elena said suddenly. That caused him to stop his writing and stare at her quizzically. "I always have and never stopped," she uttered brokenly, staring at the ground nervously. He had a surprised look, but a hint of gratefulness in his icy calm mask.
He stood up slowly, and just stayed there in his spot frozen. She threw herself at him, falling into his arms. He hesitantly accepted her embrace. She felt at home for once in her vampire existence.
He suddenly pulled back and glared. "Got tired of Damon?" he growled. Her moment of paradise was quickly ruined. "What? Stef- no!" she exclaimed passionately, backing away from him to get a better look.
Suddenly in a flash, she was slammed against the wall. Stefan's hands roughly pinning her to the rickety wood. Elena gasped in shock and just stared blankly. "You realize what I went through for five years! Having to see you with him and hear him fuck you in my own house!" he yelled, emotions exploding. Veins erupting beneath the surface, canines lengthening. The tears fell angrily from Elena's eyes.
"You realize what I had to go through, seeing you turn yourself into a monster!" she felt her vampire strength hit her and he was pinned to the wall suddenly.
Red pooled in her dark brown orbs as she sneered at him. "You don't! I had nothing, and Damon was the only safest thing I could think of," she whispered, gulping loudly at the end of her statement.
"You're worse than Katherine," he whispered spitefully. He was right. She knew that. "Shut up! Don't remind me of that stupid whore!" she screamed angrily, glaring up at him.
"It was never a competition Stefan! It was always you!" she said loudly. She let go of his shoulders and backed away slowly. "You were mad and decided to get back at me by dating my brother. You didn't even care about him?" Stefan asked lowly.
"How can I love him or care. When he thinks I don't know about him fucking Caroline behind my back," Elena seethed. Her teeth clenched and she glared at the ground.
Stefan paced back and forth angrily. Elena stopped him, and forced him to look down at her. "Listen! I love you Stefan, I know we screwed up. But we can start over, you know. Rebuild our relationship," Elena tried to get through him meekly.
He suddenly kissed her hard on the lips. And she knew then that she had won him over. They both knew it would never be the same. But they had forever to try and get it right.
