a midnight encounter

Francis flute shook his blond head. why did he always have to play a woman? Sam Snug was a whole foot shorter, and Frank was twice the man as Starveling. but that was the way Quince did business. Snout was as equally displeased to be a wall. He fumbled with the keys. it was very nice of Theseus to let them stay. He was mostly to thank, not that anyone cared. But he had gotten into the Dukes good graces. That night at the wedding party, Frank had kept Theseus and Hypolita in stitches, that and Bottom noticed he and the Duke bore a striking resemblance.

He opened the door. there sitting on the bed was a young woman. Frank rubbed his eyes, she had wings! No he wasn't drunk, he never touched the stuff.

"Uh, hello?" he said. she turned, her face was streaked with tears. he got a little closer and noticed one of her gossamer like appendages was badly torn.

"what happened?" It was in his nature to be kind especially to women. She did not respond but looked at him pleadingly. He got closer still, slowly not wanting to frighten her. she was dressed in what could only be described as petals in a gentle gown-like shape. some of them were bruised like a crushed flower. He held his hand out.

"come here, it's okay, don't cry." she rose and met him. he held her gently while she continued to cry. He they stood, him utterly bewildered, her sobbing quietly for a moment. she jumped suddenly, a tiny glowing orb no bigger than a lightning bug had flown in. she was obviously terrified of whatever this thing was, and clutched him tightly. she whimpered as it got closer and when it was within striking distance he swatted at it. If this was what made her so unhappy he wanted it gone. he felt strangely attached to the creature in his arms. it flew out of the room and she visibly relaxed. then she kissed him and disappeared into a ball of light herself.

He lay in bed, his mind swimming, his lips burning. He could still feel her holding him, could still smell her, like wildflowers on his shirt. if only he could be with her again. He woke in the middle of the night to soft breath on his neck. it was her, this time she was wearing nothing. he sat up startled.

"what" he started to say but she put her finger to his lips and opened and closed her wings. he noticed the torn wing was bandaged in what appeared to be cobwebs. she kissed him again and it burned where she touched him. she began to strip him down and he made haste to help. she then mounted him gently and loved him as if she were afraid he would break. he couldn't think, he was in heaven. he had never felt anything like this before. whomever or whatever this was knew what she was doing. they finished and he quickly nodded off into a blissful sleep. he woke in the morning and went to hold her, but she was gone. only a small yellow flower on the pillow beside him was proof that she had ever been there. the only reminder of his midnight encounter.
