Toph x Sokka OTP:The Ones WHo Saved The World

think I'm going to do a few little headcanons like this.

Characters from the original Avatar series in case you didn't know

Sokka had always been afraid of the dark. No, not the dark - but the feeling that accompanied the sunset and the fall of the night. In his recent years he had met some of the world's finest water benders and with the arrival of the moon each evening, they only grew stronger. Sokka, however, was a non-bender. He knew that he would never be as strong as Aang or Katara, but during daylight that didn't seem to matter. They could still bend, of course, but their power was much less prominent and Sokka didn't feel like he stood out as much around them when the moon wasn't present.

There was another reason though, why he hated the night so much. His first true love, Princess Yue had been snatched away from him in the darkness, just days after he had become smitten and in love with her. The blinding luminance that came with the moon after that night was very painful to Sokka. He knew that what she had done was brave and noble, but a small part of him had wished she could stay with him in her mortal form rather than sacrificing herself to save her people.

Toph knew how Sokka felt about nightfall, if she could not tell by the change in air temperature or passing conversation, she knew when the sun had set because she could feel Sokka trembling. Sokka trembled for a number of reasons: sadness, regret and fear. What he was scared of was unspecific in his own head, but there was a looming terror that went along with the sunset in his mind. At first Toph did not know what to do to comfort Sokka, she knew that the night made him feel weak, and due to her enormity of physical strength, she felt that trying to consolidate him on that would only add salt to injury. Instead she held his hand. She always felt close to people when she held their hands, not just because of the physical proximity. But to Toph, holding hands was equivalent to staring into someone's eyes. She knew how someone was feeling by touching them and Sokka knew this. He knew that there was no point in trying to hide his pain like he did for Aang or Katara, so he didn't. For months, every evening they would sit together, they wouldn't say a word. One night Sokka did talk though, at first a little, but he began to say more and more as the night progressed and the pair stayed up til dawn, Sokka letting out his innermost feelings and fears and Toph listening, she didn't say anything because she didn't have to. She was just comfort to Sokka, comfort he had desperately needed all his life. His village had been torn apart and time and time again he saw the ones he loved stolen from him. He had trouble trusting people too which is what made his relationship with Toph so special, he trusted her and that is why she was the first person he felt safe revealing himself, so raw and blunt to and she knew it.
