A/N. This was written for my friend who wanted a Valentine's Day fanfic. She never said it couldn't be depressing!
Character death! You have been warned!
St. Valentine's Day. A day for lovers, a day to merge together. Not for him. All around him are happy couples bathed in light. He stays in the darkness. A lone candle lights the small dark room. Shadows flicker on the wall, casting disfigured shapes.
In his mind they images move together to create his lost love. His dead love. Darkness clamed her and he had brought her to the darkness. He closes his eyes and wills the image of her to fade into darkness. He wishes the darkness would stay forever.
That way he would not see her broken corpse anymore. He fingers her cross lovingly. A lone tear falls down his face. He brushes it away angrily.
"Why God? Why..."
There is no reply. He sees her body again and begins to cry. He does not wipe the tears away. There is no-one to see him cry. He reaches into his bedside drawer and pulls out his pistil. He pictures her smiling face and calmly pulls the trigger.
He wakes in a world of light. A face is above him, he knows this face, it's his love.
"Anna…" He whispered.
She nods and smiles at him, tears in her eyes. He smiles he is home at last.
Gabriel Van Helsing was found dead on February 14, 1890. He died of a gun shot wound to the head and some who knew him well say he died of a broken heart from the loss of his beloved Anna Valerious.
