Hold

Eren gazed up through the canopy of leaves to look at the stars. It was a beautiful, cloudless night within the interior of Wall Rose. He turned his gaze over to the small cabin where his comrades were still sleeping. Eren didn't mind being on watch, but he didn't enjoy it either. Man, this is such a tedious job. I wish I at least had company, Eren thought. The sound of rustling leaves to his left caught his attention; turning his head in the direction that the noise came from, he noticed a young girl's silhouette.

"Hey, Mikasa." Eren greeted her, slightly startled. Shouldn't she be asleep? "What're you doing out here? You should be resting."

The girl frowned, "I wasn't tired. So I came out here." She said. Eren shook his head. Mikasa was really stubborn sometimes. His turquoise gaze met locked with her black eyes. "What?" Mikasa asked too innocently.

"You're a real pain in the ass, sometimes, you know? You should really be resting your broken ribs." Eren stated dryly.

Mikasa blushed slightly. "But I wanted to be with you…"

Eren allowed himself an inward smile. "Fine. Come here," he said, taking her hand and pulling her into a gentle hug. They had long since been together, but they fake argued so that no one would suspect anything. Everyone knew anyways, but just let them live in their little fantasies. Mikasa smiled, pecking his cheek. "Thank you," she said. Then she frowned. Eren noticed this immediately. "What's wrong?" he asked tenderly. Mikasa looked at him with sad eyes.

"Today."

Realization struck him like a Titan's fist. Today was the day that her parents were killed, all those years ago. Eren pulled her back into his embrace, gently stoking her air. "It's okay. I'm here for you," he said softly, still stroking her hair. "Thank you, Eren. For saving me all those years ago," she whispered.

"You don't need to thank me. I'm always here for you. I love you, Mikasa," he said, kissing her forehead and then her nose. Finally his lips met with hers. Mikasa felt no sorrow then. Eren was there for her, and he loved her. That was all that mattered.

"I love you, too, Eren."
