A Mother's Melody

The trees swayed to and fro with serene whispers as they spoke with the winds while a slight breeze swept past him. The willow tree he sat under shaded him from the brilliant rays of the shining sun as slowly it soared across the sky to set.

"My love is everlasting,

For you, anything I'd do

Forever and ever with you I'll be,

Forever will I love you."

His heart swelled as he gazed into the depths of the water of the small pond. Beautiful white flowers lay grazed and scattered upon the surface of the rippling pool of blue before him. His bright verdant emerald green eyes burned with liquid that slowly fell down the lengths of his cheeks in crystal drops. The boy sighed, trying to push away the searing pain in his chest but found that it would not leave him. He let the tears of sorrow fall from his eyes.

"Never will I leave you

In my heart shall you stay.

Forever and ever with you I'll be

During every night and every day."

He heard voices to his left and saw a mother walking with her child. The young boy said something to her in a whining tone, which made her stop. She murmured to him in a stern tone and stood up. The infant sniveled and she looked down at him. The expression of irritation was immediately replaced by those of loving and tenderness.

"You're still my darling

And no matter where you are,

Forever and ever with you I'll be

I'll be by your side, your shining star."

The mother knelt down and picked up her son who smiled at her with adoration. Their observer watched them and heard the young boy say, "love you," and the mother in turn reply, "I love you too, forever." He turned away after they walked on and disappeared from sight. That feeling deep within him made the lump in his throat cause more tears to flow in a quicker pace down his face.

"I'll always be there to brush away your tears

You may always come back to your home,

Forever and ever with you I'll be,

I'll be there most when you feel alone."

He brushed away his tears and sighed once more. "I love you mum," he whispered in a hoarse voice. "I love you dad." His voice shook with intense emotion. "I'll love you always." In the pond he could have sworn he saw two people smile back at him. He briskly turned around, but there was no one there.

"When you're grown,

You'll always have me there,

Forever and ever with you I'll be

Always and always for you I'll care."

He turned back to the pond in which the two people were looking back at him with bright and proud smiles. Again, he brushed away the new tears that fell so that no more ripples would be sent on the surface. The woman looked at him with matching eyes as he, and the man with hair as untidy as his. A sob caught in his throat and his shoulders shook from the feelings deep within him.

"And when I'm gone in spirit I'll be

Loving you always, in my heart always

Forever and ever with you I'll be

Through all your life, through your last days."

Ever so slowly did he reach his hand out to the reflection of his beloved parents. The tips of his fingers made contact with the surface of the water sending ripples throughout the rest of the pond. Later, he could have sworn he felt the warmth of his mother's hand upon his and his father's hand above that, but he could never be sure.

"You're my son, my darling, my boy

Never will I leave you; never will we part,

Forever and ever with you I'll be

Always and always, forever in my heart."

Ever so slowly did he pull his hand away from the water. When the rippling of the surface finally ceased, he sat back down still staring at the pond. The reflection of his smiling parents was gone.
