Where Kurt Hummel's Middle Name is not Elisabeth
It was just a typical night at home. Cuddling, sweet kisses, a movie, you know the usual. But then Blaine's curiosity got the best of him. He had to ask, so he did.
"Kurt?"
"Yeah"
"I've been wondering why your parents gave you Elisabeth as a middle name."
"Well," Kurt began, "Elisabeth isn't really my middle name."
Blaine turned toward Kurt with an eyebrow quirked, "What do you mean?" he asked even more interested now.
Rolling his eyes Kurt asks, "Why do you want to know now? We have been together for, what, five years now and you are just now asking about this."
"Well it just struck me that it seems odd for parents to give their male child a female name. Even it is the middle name. But then you said, just now, that Elisabeth is really your middle name. What did you mean?"
"It's a long story."
"We've got time."
Kurt took a deep breath and launched into the explanation, "Do you remember the old Dick Van Dyke show?"
Blaine nodded.
"The one where Little Richie finds out his middle name is Rosebud and he asks why?"
Blaine nodded, "It's one of my favorite episodes."
"Well it's kinda like that", Kurt continued. "Elisabeth is really an acronym for all of my middle names."
Blaine counted, "You have nine middle names?" Blaine was awestruck.
"Yes well, would you like to know them?"
"Of course I would. I need to know my future husbands full name, now don't I?"
"Alright, just let me grab a piece of paper. It will be easier if I write it down." So, Kurt went to the printer and retrieved a sheet of paper. On his way back to the couch he also grabbed a pen. Then he wrote Elisabeth vertically down the left side of the paper and began to explain his name to Blaine.
"Yes, Elisabeth is my legal middle name, but it should really look more like E. L. I. S. A. B. E. T. H. Anyway on to what each letter stand for.
Elias, they gave me this as way to honor my mother.
Lysander, this was given to my because of my mother's love of Shakespeare and her favorite play was A Mid Summer's Dream.
Izaak, is an uncle's name.
Samuel, my grandfather on my father's side.
Alec, another uncle.
Burt, obviously after my dad.
Earnest, this is because my mother loved the book, The Importance of Being Ernest.
Timothy, my grandfather on my mother's side.
Heathcliff, clearly from Withering Heights.
So there you have it." Kurt looked up at Blaine, smiled and said, "Hello my name is Kurt Elias Lysander Izaak Samuel Alec Burt Earnest Timothy Heathcliff Hummel, it's nice to meet you." He stuck his hand out to Blaine. Blaine took it and said, "It's so nice to meet you. All of you, but I think I'll stick to Elisabeth", winking at Kurt.
"I thought you might." Kurt giggled, then tackle hugged his fiancé.
