17. July 1997
Jack knocked on the front door of Samantha Carter. He wanted to check if she was okay, because she had gone hurt on a mission. He was really worried. They had just met three months ago but Jack already felt a connection with her. He trusted her. . A deep friendship like they have known each other for years.
A little girl with blonde hairs and blue eyes opened the door. She was maybe five years old. Jack heard a familiar voice from inside the house: "Gracie you know that you aren't allowed to open the door."
"But Mommy I was near the door and you not."
"Gracie."
She looked at Jack and turned around: "Mommy, here is a man. He looks confused."
Sam came to the door and looked at Jack.
"Hallo Sir, what do you do here?"
"I'm visiting my 2IC because she got hurt. I just wanted to see if you are alright."
"Thanks sir. Everything is okay. I am feeling better."
Jack nodded and asked: "And who is that pretty little girl?"
"I'm shy," the mini-issue of Carter said.
"You are not shy. This is my daughter Grace. Gracie this is Jack O'Neill."
The girl was hiding behind Carters legs. Now she looked completely different than when she opened the door. Jack kneeled down in front of Gracie.
"Nice to meet you pretty girl."
Grace made a step to Jack and asked: "Why do you call me pretty girl? My name is Gracie."
"Because," Jack answered, "it is the truth. You are pretty just like your Mommy."
"Then I think I like it," the girl said, smiled on Jack and came closer to Jack.
"Sir, do you want to come in? We have lasagne and…cake." Sam smiled at him. She got the feeling that Jack liked cake.
"I absolutely love cake and lasagne too."
Sam smiled at her 1IC. She got a warm feeling in her belly. She didn't really knew why she felt that.
An hour later
Jack and Sam were sitting on the couch and talked to each other and Gracie was sitting on the floor.
"Why do you never talk about your daughter?" asked Jack a bit hesitant.
"It is difficult. It was always difficult. I'm scared that something happens to her. I don't want her to be part of my work. I just want her to have a happy child hood," Usually she didn't tell that to people.
"You are always scared, when it is about your children," Jack said.
"Have you children?" Sam asked.
"I had a son. He died when he was eight years old. He shot himself anciently with my gun." He knew he sounded cold but he didn't wanted to let her see how much this still hurt him even do he really trusted Sam.
"I'm so sorry, Sir."
"Yeah I know. What's about her father?"
"He was…He was just a stupid one night stand. I don't even know his last name. We've met in a bar and then…well you can imagine this. When I meet him I thought, that I may fall in love with him but the day after he was gone. When I found that I was pregnant, couldn't contact him. He doesn't know that she exists. She needs to grow up without her father. And I am sorry for that because a kid deserves its father. "
"I'm sorry," said Jack.
"Well it is okay, now it is okay."
Gracie came to the couch and asked Jack: "Do you want to play Barbie, Jack?"
"Why not I like playing Barbie," Jack answered.
Sam watched them and caught herself how she wished that he was Gracie's father.
20. July 1997
Sam was standing in front of Jacks door. She knocked on the door. She was holding Gracie's hand. Jack opened the door and looked confused on Sam. It was 11pm.
"Sir, did I wake you up?"
"Well…yeah I felt asleep in front of the TV."
"I'm really sorry. I leave go, if you want."
"No, it's okay. What happened? Are you okay?"
"Yeah I am okay. A friend of mine has really big problems and she asked me to come over and I wanted to ask if you could take Gracie?"
"Yeah. Sure. Come in Gracie"
"Thanks Sir. She wears her Pyjama under her jacket. Her other things are in this bag. I will come back as fast as possible."
Cater said bye to her girl and then she was away. Jack took the girl's hand and they walked in the house. Jack prepared the guest room for the girl. The girl was sitting next to him on a chair and talked but she didn't talked to Jack she talked to herself.
"Okay pretty girl now we prepare you for bed. Your bed is already waiting for you."
The girl nodded.
Jack put her to bed and read her a story. He said with her till she was asleep and then he went into his own bed. He was exhausted.
In the middle of the night Gracie stood next to Jacks bed and woke him up.
"Jack I can't sleep. Can you come and sit on my bed till I am fallen asleep?"
"Yeah. Sure. Pretty girl."
He got out of his bed and walked with Gracie to her bed she lay in her bed and was asleep right away
