AN: I do not own Vocaloid, the characters, or the song Synchronicity. I only own my writing.

Another note...

This piece is based upon a series of Vocaloid songs entitled "Synchronicity", therefore it follows the same basic plot of the songs. My hope is to expand upon the existing plot to create a full-length engaging storyline. I also plan on writing an ending based entirely upon my own imagination (because as some of you may recall, part 3 out of the trilogy has been in progress for awhile and has not been released yet). Anyways, onward and enjoy!

~Prologue~

The silence is ringing throughout the cave. It echoes off the flat, cold surfaces and reverberates through the walls. The room is a chamber of ice—a crystalline prison. Five pillars of glassy ice border the slick, frozen floor. Kneeling in the center of the chamber is a young woman. Her dress is ornate, with many ruffles of black silk and silver embroidery. Teal hair hangs from her bowed head, casting a shadow on her face. The girl's expression is unreadable, as a gray mask hides the top half of her face. In her right hand she clenches an ivory staff.

Though she does not weep or murmur or even make a sound, she is silently mourning the loss of another sister. Grainy images flash through her mind with a grayscale color palette. A claw poised to strike. A thick tail covered in scales. An outstretched wing with a leathery membrane. The glint of a reptilian eye. And the motionless body of a girl, bruised and battered. These images cause a shuddering within her soul, though to someone watching on the outside, you would never know she was in pain. Her mask hides her eyes and her mouth remains a firm line, but inside the memories are stirring. One particular image lingers in her mind: the arm of the former Dragon Diva, streaked with blood. This image is clearer than the others. For a moment the woman thinks she can see it in color… the crimson blood… and the girl's pink painted nails… but as soon as she glimpses it, the picture vanishes. Her mind clouds over and the memories are once again locked away.

She suddenly can't remember why she has come in the first place. All she knows is that she must return to her post so she can guard the entrance to the Dragon's Chamber. It was her destiny to become the Dragon's mistress, and it is her duty until the end of days. So she rises to her feet, still grasping her staff. The girl turns and strides back into the Dragon's Chamber, her heels making sharp clicks on the ice.
