A Matter of Time
"Rumple, Rumple I have the most wonderful news!" Belle exclaimed tearfully almost knocking over her husband with the force of her embrace.
"What is it?" He replied, stroking her tears away with care and love. She was his light, his anchor the only thing besides Henry that was keeping him from being consumed by the darkness, from dying along with his son.
"I'm pregnant." She beamed; the colour of her cheeks already bright with the rush of new motherhood.
He did not know what to say, he felt everything from sadness to what his son would miss, to concern for Belle but, there was another more foreign emotion that began to warm the cockles of The Dark One's heart.
Joy.
Joy surged through him like an adrenaline that would not cease.
"Belle- that's…"
"Enjoy this moment my love." Belle stated icily pulling away to his horror.
"Belle?"
"Because you will never know your child! SHE WILL NEVER KNOW WHAT A MONSTER HER FATHER IS!" She bellowed gleefully.
"But, I can change!" He pleaded, desperately grabbing at her.
"You will never change." She stated before rubbing her suddenly growing belly affectionately and walking out of the shop without looking back.
"Belle."
"BELLE!"
"Belle." Rumple gasped like a man parched. Sweat and tears beading down his face.
"Shh. I'm here."
"Belle." He pulled her to him and captured her lips hungrily. "You're here." "I won't ever leave you."
"But,"
"It was just a terror. After everything you've been through, losing Neal, almost losing yourself to Zelena it's understandable. But, I'm here. I'm here and I am not going anywhere." She pledged as they took in air.
His wife fell asleep contently in his arms his young, innocent, precious wife who knew nothing of his broken promise.
He would tell her in the morning and she would shed more tears than he'd ever thought possible.
After all, it was only a matter of time.
