They finally got out the door and into the car around 8:30 pm, and drove for what seemed like forever. They passed the time with Dave rapping badly and John trying to get them to join in on singing pop songs. He just thought it was funny was all. They finally arrived at the pier and got out of the car. Dirk got their things out of the trunk and took them down to a good spot. He laid out their blanket, and the boys got on it eagerly. The stars were shining brightly in the night sky, away from the city lights. Dave stole a glance down at the other boy's hand. He debated trying to hold it, even just for a minute. He glanced back up almost immediately, not wanting to seem weird. He felt anxious being so close to John, though he would never admit it. John yawned, and he felt his face flush.

"Oh! The fireworks are starting!" John exclaimed.

Dave looked up at the sky and saw such beautiful explosions of color in the air, whizzing around and popping. He heard the loud blasts and felt the cool blanket beneath him. The air was chilly. John looked elated, staring up into the sky. Dave scooted closer to him - John didn't notice. He put his arm around him, and John immediately looked at him, feeling goosebumps on his skin.

"What? You gay?" Dave asked him, anxiously.

John laughed. "No, but you sure are."
