When he was woken by his father and reminded that he didn't have a present for Theresa, he became frantic to find something. Anything would do.

When his father offered him gold for his good deeds, he promptly thanked Avo for answering his prayer.

He felt a bit guilty after he punched Geoffrey, the town bully. He could have sworn he heard his nose break. However, that feeling disappeared when he looked down at the young boy whose face was in awe.

After the affair with Geoffrey, he took off in search for young Emily, who was looking for her teddy Rosie. He had a feeling he had just the thing to brighten her mood.

He was proud when he refused that bribe. But still, he couldn't help but feel sorry for the man when his wife took off to find his cheating ass.

He couldn't help but feel a little disappointed when Theresa told him that she already knew he would get her chocolates. But it was worth it to see her happy after all those horrible nightmares she had lately.

He was 8 years old when he first saw death. It came in the form of an arrow that pierced the back of Gregory. The blood, the cries of pain and fear. He prayed it was only a nightmare.

The screams of horror were countless. They sounded as if they were all directly in his skull, making it split apart. It hurt so much, he passed out.

After kneeling over his father's lifeless body, and watching a bandit being cooked in his own flesh, the boy was convinced this nightmare was the real thing.

After being taken to the guild and shown to his room, he cried himself to sleep. And he continued to do so for many nights afterward.

After waking from his recurring nightmare, he left his room, being careful as not to wake Whisper again. He went to the mysterious faced door and stared out at the pond. He had done this many times and was always oblivious to the pairs of eyes that watched him.

He did it again. He fell asleep in the library. And once again, he woke to find a warm blanket draped over his frail frame.

It had been 2 years since the boy came to the Guild.

14. Maze had taken a liking to the boy. So when the future Ranger asked him for a favor, he accepted without hesitation. However, he never expected the pain this small favor would bring to him. So now here he was, in front of a oak tree with a box of chocolates and a bunch of hand-picked flowers. The tree was a monument to the rebuilding of Oakvale; the very town he helped to destroy. He considered just crushing the gifts and leaving, lying to the boy he placed all hope in. But he couldn't do that, not now. He gently placed the cherished gifts against the tree. He would continue to do so for the next 10 years. Not only for the boy, but in hopes that he could finally sleep peacefully.

The Sword of Aeons. Keep it, or destroy it. Gain infinite power, or remember the sacrifices made. Kill Theresa, or let her live. All these questions rolled through his mind at once. It was that damned sword! With it, he could kill Jack of Blades once and for all fulfilling his revenge strewn ideals. But, how could he kill his sister? The one he had sought out for 5 years. But, then again, he survived for 10 years without her. What was another 25? He quickly shook the though out of his mind, disgusted that he could even consider it.

After moments of consideration, he made up his mind: The world was better without the Sword. Without it, his parents would be alive, Theresa would be able to see, and he never would have had to murder his mentor, the man he had considered his father.

He cast the blade into the endless void. Yes, the world would be a much better place without the Sword of Aeons.
