Little Delko No.5?

A short humorous one-shot about if Calleigh and Eric were debating having a fifth child. Rated M for safety for mentions of female anatomy and medical procedures during childbirth.

Zachary and Nadya Delko had turned one two weeks ago. And although they were still in diapers and slept in cribs, their parents were having the first of many broody moments.

Natalia and Ryan's baby had been born three days ago. His name was Riley Elijah Wolfe.

After over twenty hours of labor and an episiotomy that required over twenty-five stitches, forceps had to be used to deliver the baby boy. The baby boy tipped the scales at ten pounds, seven ounces. If that hadn't worked, the next step were a c-section. Though Natalia had had an epidural the experience had to be gruelling—even if it was all forgotten once she saw her baby, Calleigh thought. Ethan was a large baby, only about a pound in difference, but it in this occasion that difference was big. Plus she had been fortunate enough not to require stitches the two times she gave birth. She had always shuttered at being cut there like that. The new parents had insisted that the Delkos bring their older children at least over to meet their bundle of joy.

Despite her apparent physical discomfort there was no denying that Natalia was smitten with her son. Riley was a perfect mix of his parents. He was bald except for a tuft of brown hair that made him look like he was sporting a mohawk. The baby boy had hazel eyes like his proud father. Ethan liked baby Riley, possibly because Riley didn't live with him. Chloe enjoyed him probably because he was tiny and easy to hold.

It was worth teasing him about his prior nerves but new daddy Ryan had immediately begun changing diapers, starting with Riley's first diaper in the delivery room. Eric know that parental instinct had just taken over, the way it had with Eric when he first met Chloe in the hospital. His vasectomy could be reversed if he and Calleigh decided to have more children. This was unlikely just because they felt their family was complete, with the exception of a dog which they did plan to add to the family once the twins were older. Still there was times the two wondered if they were really finished having children. Their family and friends were on them now to have another child since they already made a big family work and since the twins were now a year old "it was a good time." Sure the sweet smells and sounds of newborn Riley had caused both parents to think "well, maybe..."

Then they were reminded that they already had two at home who were still babies—and how much energy they required while still trying to give attention to two older children. With these thoughts, Eric and Calleigh were sure that "Little Delko number five" would have four paws, a fur coat and say "woof."
