It had been two years since the Harry Potter kid defeated the dark wizard. Things had settled down a little bit in the wizarding world. There was, of course, still things that had to be settled. People to be found, people to be tried and things to just set right. But mostly, it had left the headlines. Especially in the United States as the fighting hadn't touched them as much as the European countries.

In a New England wizarding school, sat Hilda. She was a Junior at the Newt and Cauldron Academy, a boarding school for American witches and wizards. She was currently sitting in her dorm, chewing at the end of her quill. It was lightly powdered with confectionery sugar due to an earlier accident. She was supposed to be reading up on some advanced potions materials but she was actually just calculating integrals in her head.

Hilda had been born to muggle parents and for the first few years of her life, attended muggle school. She had excelled in science and math until she was sent a letter telling her she was a witch. When her parents sent her away to witchcraft school, she had tried to keep up her muggle studies as well. She found it strange that magical kids had no interest in photosynthesis or how to calculate surface area. She loved her Astronomy courses, but was a little worried. Why were there no classes on how magic worked? She wanted to know. She couldn't be the only one who wanted to know.

A knock on her door snapped her out of her reverie. The chair she had been leaning back in thunked to the ground. "Come in!" She called.

Her friend, Kerri, entered. Kerri was a feminist pureblood with a thick head of curly brown hair. She never tanned, only managing to burn and then peel to reveal skin the exact same shade of translucent as the layer above it had been. "Dude, what are you doing? You can't possibly be studying. You're wicked smart. You don't even need to look at your books." Kerri was from eastern mass and had an accent that caused people to make her say words with "r's" in them a lot.

Hilda stood up. She was taller than Kerri by a few inches. Kerri was often jealous of Hilda's straight, red hair that she had been growing since they were both Freshman. "I was just thinkin'. Don't even really remember 'bout what though. 'm hungry though. Let's get some chow."

She grabbed Kerri's wrist and started dragging her towards the dining common.
