Disclaimer: Song belongs to Love Spit Love (I think...) and all X-Men characters belong to Marvel...-tear-

Update 29 April 2005: doesn't alow song lyrics that are not your own in fics, so i'm removing everything.

How Soon Is Now

Rouge looked up down at her book. "The War of the Worlds" by H.G.Wells. She was sitting under a tree outside Bayville High during lunch. She wasn't too interested in socializing with other students. They weren't really her type of people. They were…humans. Humans who hated people like her. But she didn't really care, she couldn't change them.

"Hey mutie!" A voice shouted. She ignored it and continued to read her book. "What's with the Goth look mutie!"
She shut her eyes tight and counting to ten, trying to suppress her anger.
'Ah don't care. Ah don't care.' She thought to herself.
Her eyes snapped open as a football hit the tree trunk right above her head. "Watch it will yah!" She shouted.
The jocks, including Jean Grey's ex Duncan Mathews, stood before her, laughing.

"So mutie, whattcha reading?" One of them asked, snapping the book from her hands.
"Give meh back mah book." She said as calmly as possible.
"Say please freak." Duncan said.
"Give meh back mah book," She swallowed hard. "please?
The cheerleader who was currently in possession of her book gave her a fake thoughtful look. "Let me think….No!"

"Just give meh it." Rouge said, taking a few steps towards them. "Now. Or Ah sweah y'all will regret it." She took of her glove to demonstrate her point.
"You wouldn't. You'd be expelled." One of the said.
"Oh, believe meh, Ah would. Ah couldn't care less if Ah was expelled from this so called school."

"What ever freak."
"Don't call meh a freak." She spat. "The only freaks here are you and yoh friends."
They all laughed at her, and part of her wanted to shout at them, tell them to shut up, but that's the part of a person that is mostly suppressed by your common sense.

People were starting to gather around them, watching the scene. "The mutie tried to use her powers on us!"
Rouge felt the anger rise up notably inside her. "Ah did not!" She shouted.
Nobody seemed to listen. Even the people who had seen that they were the once who had started it were silent, and didn't bother to take her side.

"What's going on?" Rouge sighed at the sound of Scott Summer all too familiar voice. He pushed through the crowd, followed by Jean and Kitty. "Rouge?" He asked, waiting for her to explain.
"It's nothin' Ah just want mah book back. It ain't big deal." She muttered.
"Why aren't you wearing your glove?" Jean asked.

"Well?" She asked, as the crowd became smaller, and people went back to their own business.
"Ah took it of, so whot?"
"You were going to use your powers weren't you?"
Rouge glared at her. "Ah didn't do anythin', they started it!"
The three others looked doubtfully at each other. "Fanh, don't believe meh." She spat and walked away.

She kept walking, not caring that she was skipping class, not caring about what would happen later. What was there to care about?
School? School wouldn't do her any good, what college would accept a mutant?
Her so called friends who wouldn't even believe her?
"Mah book…" She muttered and looked back at the Lego sized block that was Bayville High. She still hadn't gotten it back.

But then again, she didn't really care.

AN: Tada! It's pretty crappy, je sais, but I'd love a review!
