Haru closed the door behind himself. He quietly trudged over to the bed and lay down. He stared up at the ceiling as he reflected on that evenings encounter with Rin.
'She really doesn't need me', he thought.
He started thinking about when everything was okay and they were younger and innocent of any secrets being kept from the main house.
She had been seven and he was five the first time she tried to show him how to jump rope. He remembered how excited she had been when he had agreed that she could teach him. How carful she had been when she tended his wounds from all the times he had fallen down.
Back when she had been in the hospital due to the abuse of her parents. He would walk through the empty hallways that reeked of death and despair. He always got lost a few times trying to get to her room but he always made it back to his Rin.
He would walk in and stare at the sleeping beauty that lay on the hospital bed. He would stare in awe at the fact that her long silky raven strands framed her pale, petite body perfectly. She was beautiful even at her young age if you could look past all the scars, bruises, and casts for broken bones.
She was almost always asleep so he always quietly pulled up a chair and watched to make sure that her chest was still rising and falling and that her chest was still beating. Even at the young age of eight and so madly in love.
Once she woke up from her slumber he would come over and talk to her. He would sit there holding her hand as he made jokes. He would watch her laugh so intently he would forget he was staring. He would do anything to see the light come back into her eyes. And he promised himself that he would be the one to make that distant memory of her laughing openly real.
Little did he know that soon in the far off future he will have completed his promise. She will smile more openly around strangers, but she will always have a smile so much more beautiful reserved for his eyes only.
