A/N: Yeah, it's a quickie, this one.
Simon couldn't believe it. For the first time in almost three months, Nia had finally asked him out! Well, she actually just sent him an e-mail requesting he meet her at the diner at 3 p.m., but a date was still a date in Simon's mind!
'Maybe she's finally realized her feelings for me!' Simon thought as he rushed to put on his jacket. He and Nia had been good friends all throughout school, and when Simon finally realized he liked Nia as more than a friend, she had already told him she only liked him AS A FRIEND. However, he never gave up, and he continued to try and woo her...and today might finally be his lucky day!
As he climbed into his car, Simon turned the radio up high and whistled a cheerful tune to himself. He had never felt so hopeful, so excited in his entire life. Turning down a corner, he was able to make out the diner of destination only a block away. He quickly slammed his foot on the gas and parked as soon as he could. Simon climbed out and dashed up the stairway to the outside dining area of the diner, where Nia was waiting for him and sipping a hot cup of tea.
Wiping the sweat from his brow, Simon put on a smile before he waved and exclaimed, "Nia, I got your message!"
Nia smiled back and beckoned him to take a seat. After a minute of catching-up, Simon decided to get straight to the point: "So, Nia...what was it that you wanted to see me about? Is it...important?"
Nia nodded. "I wanted to you invite you personally...to my wedding."
Simon's face immediately fell. "W...W...Wedding? Who are you...marrying?"
Nia took a deep breath, closed her eyes and replied, "I'm marrying Yoko Ritona. We've already been dating for about a month now. And...I really love her, and she really loves me. I'm sorry I didn't tell you earlier, Simon."
Simon didn't know what to say. He felt numb...and empty...like his very heart had been torn out and ripped to shreds. Nia had a look of both regret and confusion on her face, as if she thought it would have been better to have never told him at all. He felt his body shaking, and his eyesight started to become overshadowed with red.
'THIS CAN'T BE REAL...THIS CAN'T BE REAL...SHE'S...SHE'S SUPPOSED TO MARRY ME...'
Getting to his feet, Simon found it suddenly hard to breath. "I...I...I..."
"Simon...listen, I-" Nia began, but Simon finally broke loose; he smashed his fist into Nia's face, breaking her nose and sending her spiraling to the ground with blood all over her face. Screaming and sobbing in immense pain, Nia clutched at her face, her eyes wide with terror as Simon stood over her. Nearby, a man reading the newspaper stood up and quickly ran into the diner to get help.
Spitting on Nia's forehead, Simon snarled, "...How dare you, you fucking lesbian bitch." Then, he spun around and walked away without another word. He climbed into his car, stuck the key into the ignition, and drove back home. 30 minutes later, Simon was carried away by the police; arrested for violent assault.
Two days after that, Yoko and Nia were married, and even though Nia had to wear a healing patch over her nose, Yoko still thought she was as cute as ever...
