Summary: Sam and Kurt talk after Prom.

"To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance." - Oscar Wilde

Kurt fixed the crown on his head, making sure that every strand of hair was in place. He grimaced at his red and puffy eyes and wished that there was an unstant mask that he could apply to hide the fact that he'd been bawling before.

Making sure that the bathroom was empty, he fished out a compact from his pocket and applied foundation under his eyes.

He was almost done when the door suddenly swung open and Kurt quickly turned around, kilt swishing around his legs, and found Sam Evans, his hair dripping with punch. Droplets staining his formerly white dress shirt.

The blond jock noticed Kurt and gestured to his garments lamely. "Azimio and his pack of douchebags didn't want to waste the punch." He scowled, "Good thing we already took pictures. "

"What happened to Mercedes and Rachel?"

"Girl's bathroom. For some reason, they brought an extra set of clothes."

Kurt chuckled, "We have been used to bringing clothes to school. And major school functions are no exception." Pulling out a pack of moist towelettes, he approached Sam who was cleaning out the punch from his hair.

"May I?" Their eyes met on their reflections in the mirror and Sam nodded. Kurt combed his fingers through the blond strands under running water to get all of the sticky substance off.

After a few minutes, they finally managed to get Sam's hair back to its sandy blond color. Sam grabbed a few paper towels to dry his hair off while Kurt tried to bring his shirt to a somewhat lighter pink color with the moist towelettes, but it was no use.

Kurt was in the process of wiping the collar of Sam's shirt when the other boy spoke.

"You were awesome tonight." He murmured and Kurt stopped what he was doing.

"Uh, thanks." Damn his pale skin. Hopefully the awful lighting would be able to hide the crimson staining his cheeks.

Sam pushed his bangs to the side. "And the kilt? Very cool, dude. Blaine must dig it."

Kurt focused his eyes on the edge of the splotchy mirror and answered, "Uh, yeah." Even he could hear the note of disdain on his voice. He looked down at his boots dejectedly.

"You're making a statement. What you did tonight… Wish I could be that brave." Kurt's gaze snapped up to the other's, and what he saw in Sam's eyes…

Blaine's gaze was always adoring, but Kurt would rather be gazed at with a look of admiration and support, not like he was a pet that just did an amazing trick, like he often felt with the lead warbler.

"Well, I have to get back. Blaine's waiting."

"Yeah. The girls might be done already." Sam clapped a hand on Kurt's shoulder once. "Thanks, Kurt."

The boys smiled at each other one more time and Kurt left the bathroom, realizing that with the whole prom fiasco, only Sam Evans made him feel as if he was doing the right thing.

And the feeling stayed with him throughout the whole night.
