The little snowman chuckled to himself, clutching something tightly in his wooden fingers. This was going to be the best Valentine ever given.
"Are you sure about this, Olaf?" Chilly, Olaf's stuffed snowman friend, asked. "What if he isn't happy to see us?"
"Nahh," Olaf responded confidently. "Everybody wants a little love."
The two walked up—-well, Olaf practically danced and Chilly hopped—-the long snowy path to the top of the North Mountain. Chilly stopped and stared, arms and jaw dropped in amazement as he looked at the ice castle glistening in the daylight. Olaf kept on, tottering up the steps while happily humming to himself. He hadn't noticed his friend had stopped following.
"Hey, Marshmallow!" Olaf called. "I got somethin' for ya! And I brought a friend." Olaf looked to his side, and surprised not to see Chilly there, turned around to see the little stuffed snowman at the base of the stairs. "Hey, Chilly, what are you doing down there? Come on up. The ice is fine!"
"It's so big!" Chilly exclaimed.
"Of course it's big," Olaf replied. "It's a mountain!"
Just then, a loud growl came from the castle, and Olaf turned as the door swung open. His wide eyes blinked twice as the giant snowman wearing Elsa's dainty crown loomed over him.
Marshmallow huffed impatiently at Olaf.
Then Olaf's face split into a wide smile. "Hi there, big guy! Looking good. Especially like the crown. Nice touch, adds to the sparkle in your eyes."
Marshmallow hesitated a moment, uncertain what to do. You see, he was a guard snowman: he kept people out. He didn't know how to be a host snowman.
But that didn't discourage Olaf. "Anyway," he said, still smiling, "my buddy Chilly and I wanted to give you this." Olaf held out his hands and showed the larger snowman the valentine he had carried all the way up the mountain.
It was a heart-shaped carrot.
"I remembered you didn't have a nose," Olaf said and the big snowman growled. "So, I thought you might like to have one. You know, every snowman wants a nose."
"Yeah," Chilly added, hopping up the last stair step. "Even I have one, and I'm stuffed!"
Marshmallow relaxed and carefully picked up the heart-shaped carrot from Olaf's hands. He placed it in the middle of his face, took a deep breath, and smiled.
"Smells like carrot," he said in his deep grumbly voice.
Chilly and Olaf smiled at each other and said, "Happy Valentine's Day."
