Silence Beside You, Hell Within

Freakshow and Lidia

The ghost was always beside him, like a second shadow. Throughout all of his wanderings she had stuck by him never questioning the next move or motive. Now, she was gone, somewhere in this world or the ghost realm, without him. Freakshow sighed softly, as he had done so often lately, and drew his gloved hands to his face. The black leather felt cold against his grey skin; he never known a warm touch. As he raised his fingers, his shackles clanked together nosily. The prison he had been in since the end of his short rein as Master of Reality was truly a dark place. No light shown in the cell, only stonewalls surrounded him with motor as dank as a cold spring night. He shifted a black boot upon the ground and hard the gravel crumble slightly beneath his foot. This was one of the only sounds that broke his long silences.

Indeed Freakshow was used to silence. Lidia, his once companion, was as silent as a church mouse. However this silence, this empty inhuman silence, was not like her silence. Lidia's silence was still full of her presence: kind, smiling, and unique. Though her tattoos and piercings looked intimidating, she was truly very sweet. Lidia never asked for anything, but she gave everything she had to him. And now…now she was gone.

The master of freaks shed no tears, for he had none to give. Instead he leaned back upon the stonewall and let his chapped lips hang lax. With a keen ear he could hear himself wheeze. The lack of water and sunlight was going to have him soon. Lidia would have taken care of him by now, but alas…

Turning form these thoughts Freakshow sat upon the gravel ground. He landed with a thump, rustling the gravel beneath him. Otherwise everything was silent. The empty silence was driving him mad. How long had it been? A day, a week, a month? He could not say for certain. Lidia was the only one that could fill his silence with her own. She would glide gently by him like a black butterfly and smile gently. Her cape would make no sound as it whirled about her body, but in his mind, there was the song of roses.

For the first time in a long time, Freakshow opened his mouth and prepared to speak. With his final words he would break his empty silence with utter defeat.

"Lidia."
